Scanlan Scores 5 In Haudenosaunee Win

TOWSON, Md. — As the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship has gone on the Haudenosaunee Nationals continue to improve.

After an opening loss to Japan, Haudenosaunee narrowly defeated China and on Sunday it picked up a dominant 20-5 win over Switzerland in Pool E action.

At the forefront of the offensive explosion was Gowanda High School graduate Miya Scanlan. Scanlan scored five first quarter goals and later added an assist in the second quarter to power the Haudenosaunee offense. The dominant performance even allowed for the defense to get in on the fun as Gowanda High School lacrosse head coach Lottie Gill picked up an assist in the second quarter.

By halftime Haudenosaunee led 13-2, but the goals didn’t stop there as Haudenosaunee cruised to the 20-5 final.

Scanlan scored five goals on her only five shots, Wynter Jock scored four goals, Jalyn Jimerson scored one goal and assisted four, Lois Garlow scored three and assisted one, Taylor Frink had five assists, both Fawn Porter and Ivy Santana had two goals and an assist and Jacelyn Lazore scored twice.

China narrowly defeated Argentina 11-10 in the other Pool E game on Sunday. On Saturday, Switzerland topped Argentina 8-7 in overtime and Japan defeated China 19-1.

Haudenosaunee will play its last Pool E game against Argentina at 6 on ESPN+ tonight.
