Haudenosaunee Eliminated By Australians

TOWSON, Md. — The Haudenosaunee Nationals run at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship came to an end at the hands of 4-seed Australia 17-3 on Wednesday.

Even with the loss, Gowanda High School graduate Miya Scanlan managed to score another highlight reel goal in the first quarter. Scanlan pinned between two defenders gained control of the ball with one hand and looking away from the goaltender she fired a behind the back bounce shot into a corner of the net.

It was probably Scanlan’s best goal of the tournament, but it would be the closest Haudenosaunee would get to Australia as they wouldn’t score again until the fourth quarter down 14-1. High schooler Wynter Jock scored two goals in the fourth, including a beauty where she came around from the back of the net and dove through the air only to turn back and fire a ball past the keeper.

The Australians will take on the United States in the semifinals today on ESPN2.

Haudenosaunee now drops into the Championship Consolation bracket and where it will have a rematch against Japan on Friday at 11 a.m.
