GENEVA — The Jamestown Tarp Skunks suffered their second loss in as many days, falling to Geneva, 4-0, in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League game Sunday.
Winning pitcher Augie Walters (2-0) and relievers Wyatt Pachette and Nick Searce combined on a four-hitter. Searce also did the job at the plate, collecting three hits, including a home run, and Shane Dux added a pair of singles as the Red Wings improved to 5-6 in the West Division.
Travis Perry (1-2) took the loss for the Tarp Skunks (8-6), who committed three errors. Johnny Kampes (double), Cody Bey, Jordan King and Royce Frazier each had a hit in the losing cause.
Geneva led 1-0 after the first inning and 2-0 after the sixth. Eddie Galatas came on in relief of Perry with one out in the sixth inning and gave up one run, while Bryce Jackson worked the final two frames, surrendering a pair of unearned runs.
Jamestown is off today, but returns to action Tuesday when it entertains the Red Wings at 6:30 p.m. at Diethrick Park.
SATURDAY
TARP SKUNKS FALL
Johnny Kampes’ hot hitting continued Saturday night, but Jamestown couldn’t hold a late lead and fell to Elmira 6-5 at Diethrick Park.
Kampes drilled a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning only to have the Pioneers respond with two runs in the top of the eighth and they held on for a 6-5 victory.
Elmira managed just five hits off four Tarp Skunks pitchers, but it took advantage of two errors, five wild pitches and a passed ball to make a winner out of reliever Kevin Serrano (1-1). Bobby Marsh collected two hits for Pioneers.
Eli Shedd pitched five scoreless inning in a starting role for Jamestown. Corey Shields, Tucker Fenton and Derek Benzinger came on in relief. Benzinger, who gave up two runs in the eighth, took the loss to drop to 1-1 on the season.
Kampes finished with two hits, as did teammates Will Dorrell and Julian Thompson. Cody Bey added a double.
