Corey 64th, Swanson 68th At States

WILTON — Southwestern senior Josephine Corey finished 64th after shooting a 95 on Monday to finish her two-day showing at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association girls golf championships with a 191 at McGregor Links Country Club.

Sophomore Kennedy Swedick of Section II The Albany Academies won the individual title after shooting matching rounds of 72 for an even-par 144.

Eighth-grader Nina Choe of Section I Ursuline School finished second with a 148 after rounds of 73 and 75. Junior Sofia Nogalo, also of Ursuline School, was third (74-76-150) followed by junior Julia Zigrossi of Section V Our Lady of Mercy (78-73-151).

Section VI finished fifth out of 10 sections with a 1,241 after rounds of 629 and 612.

Clarence senior Victoria Leach finished tied for 11th (79-82-161), Clarence junior Rosie Dinunzio tied for 29th (90-81-171), Clarence senior Annika Michel tied for 31st (85-87-172), Clarence freshman Kylie Dean was 44th (89-88-177), Depew junior Laurek Jaskier was 49th (98-84-182), Lancaster senior Sophia Brown tied for 72nd (98-97-195), Clarence junior Emily Morelli was 74th (103-95-198) and Lancaster senior Riley Morris was 75th (92-108-200).

Section I won the team title with matching rounds of 551 for a total of plus-94 1,102. Section VIII was second (557-565-1,122) and Section V was third (587-595-1,182).

Girls state golf championships will move to The Edison Club in Rexford June 3-5, 2023.

BOYS

ELMIRA — Westfield senior Darien Swanson finished 68th after he fired an 83 on Monday to finish his two-day showing at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association boys golf championships with a 165 at the Mark Twain Golf Course.

Senior Thomas Finn of Section VIII Locust Valley won the individual title with a 138 after shooting rounds of 66 and 72.

Senior CJ Merritt of Section VIII Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK finished second with a 142 after rounds of 69 and 73. Eighth-grader Josh Yan of Section IX Newburgh Free Academy was third (70-73-143) followed by senior Jack Berl of Section V Victor (71-73-144).

Section VI finished in sixth out of 11 sections with a 1,100 after rounds of 552 and 548.

Lewiston-Porter junior Rocco Randazzo was 12th (71-77-148), Lancaster eighth-grader Cole Jones was 18th (71-80-151), Williamsville East sophomore Tyler Delisanti was 30th (77-77-154), Frontier junior Alex Schickling was 39th (84-73-157), Lancaster senior Michael Wolski was 58th (79-84-163), Williamsville South junior Julian Mogensen was 65th (88-77-165), East Aurora senior Peter Jantz was 71st (88-81-169) and Hutch Tech junior Eliel Rodriguez was 87th (92-85-177).

Section VIII won the team title with a 503-534-1,037 — 16 strokes better than Section V’s 522-531-1,053. Section IX was third with a two-day total of 517-545-1,062.

Boys state golf championships will return to the Mark Twain Golf Course June 3-5, 2023.
