WEST SENECA — Trenton Shutters has had a pretty good run of it this spring.

Literally.

That was especially true Friday at the Section VI Track & Field State Qualifier at West Seneca West High School.

Competing in the finals of the boys Division 2 800 meters, the Southwestern senior posted a winning time of 1:55:09 to earn a trip next week to Cicero-North Syracuse High School in a bid for a state crown. Shutters finished ahead of Braden Tent of East Aurora (1:57.86) and Roan Kelly of Randolph (1:59.62).

Shutters wasn’t the only area headliner from the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association.

Angelina Napoleon of Allegany-Limestone continued her dominance, claiming the girls Division 2 800 meters (2:08.02) and the 3,000 meters (10:11.73) to punch her ticket to central New York next weekend; and teammate Jacob Brink captured the boys Division 2 3,200 meters (9:35.82).

Placing second among CCAA athletes in their respective finals Friday were Abby Brunenavs of Maple Grove in the girls Division 2 800 meters (2:19.64); Corinne Inkley of Randolph in the girls Division 2 pole vault (9-9); and Devin Austin of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley in the boys Division 2 long jump (21-7).

The 800 meters, the 3,000 meters and the 3,200 meters were the only track finals yesterday. The remaining track events were preliminaries. Meanwhile, all the field events contested Friday were finals. The pentathlon completed three events and will have two more today. Competition starts at noon.
