Rush Jump-Starts Fredonia Offense In 10-1 Win Over Jamestown

Owen Rush’s two-run home run jump-started a five-run first inning as Fredonia beat Jamestown 10-1 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball Monday at the Martin Road Athletic Complex.

Andrew Cowan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Owen Ludwig added a two-run single in the first for the Hillbillies (9-2-1, 8-1).

In a four-run third inning, Micah Davis and Matt Cash each had a two-run double. Cash also drove in Fredonia’s final run with another double in the fifth inning.

All told, Cash finished with three hits and three RBIs while Micah Davis and Simon Davis each had two hits and two runs scored.

Gabe Schrader threw a complete-game five-hitter with nine strikeouts while walking two and hitting a batter.

The Red Raiders (3-7, 2-6) scored their lone run in the third inning as Brandon Lobb, John Torres Jr. and Juan Matos hit consecutive singles to load the bases. Nick Miraglia drove in the run with a sacrifice fly.

Colin Melendez and Torres combined for six strikeouts on the mound for Jamestown.

MARSH WINS PITCHERS’ DUEL

ELLICOTTVILLE — Ethan Frank scored the winning run on an error as Ellicottville beat Franklinville 1-0 in Division 3 action.

Lucas Marsh earned the victory on the mound, throwing a complete-game, two-hitter with 16 strikeouts and four walks for the Eagles. In his past two starts, Marsh has struck out 33 while not allowing a run.

Blake Frank matched Marsh zero for zero through six innings before walking three straight Ellicottville batters with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Frank’s 126th pitch put him over the limit and Bretton Blecha relieved. On Blecha’s second pitch, Hunter Smith hit a groundball and the Panthers were unable to make the play.

Braylon Wyatt doubled and Marsh singled for Ellicottville (8-7, 5-5).

Isaac Towne and Collin Mooney had singles for Franklinville (5-4, 5-4).

GRUBER SHINES FOR BEARS

FREWSBURG — Freshman Aiden Gruber allowed two hits and struck out nine in five innings as Frewsburg beat Cassadaga Valley 10-0 in Division 2 play.

Toby Gifford went 2 for 3 to lead the Bears (6-6, 6-3), who scored three in the third inning, one in the fourth and six in the fifth.

The Cougars fell to 0-10 overall and 0-9 in the league.
