Gowanda Edges T’Birds In Extra Innings 7-6

GOWANDA — Jada Geiger hit an RBI single to plate Ella Luther with the winning run as No. 3 Gowanda beat No. 6 Chautauqua Lake 7-6 in 10 innings of Section VI Class C quarterfinal action.

Addison Kota threw all 10 innings, striking out eight for the Panthers.

Cameron Nagel went 4 for 5 with three doubles, including a bases-clearing three-run double.

Gowanda will take on No. 2 Portville, which knocked off No. 7 Wilson 6-4, on Wednesday.

NORTH COLLINS ADVANCES

NORTH COLLINS — Hailey Jasinski collected four hits, including a double and a solo home run, and drove in four runs, and Mckenna Rice had three hits, one a grand slam home run, and had seven RBIs as No. 2 North Collins downed No. 7 Pine Valley 13-9 in a Class D quarterfinal game.

Jaylee Jimmerson added two hits for North Collins (8-10), which will entertain No. 3 Ellicottville in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Kaitlin Hayes collected four hits and drove in two runs; Haleigha Hardy (double) had two hits; and Danica Farnham belted a solo home run for Pine Valley (6-9).

STEWARD SHINES IN CIRCLE

GOWANDA — Kendall Steward threw a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts and one walk as No. 4 Randolph shut out No. 5 Barker 3-0 in Class C quarterfinal play.

The Cardinals got on the board in the third inning when Kyra Pence hit an RBI single to plate Juliana Syracuse.

In the sixth, Sadie Steward walked and Kendall Steward hit an RBI triple before Harper Smith’s RBI double.

Kendall Steward finished with two hits, including the triple.

Peyton Bradley threw a six-hitter with four strikeouts and two walks for Barker.

Randolph will travel to No. 1 Falconer for a semifinal Wednesday.

WOLVERINES ROLL OVER BROCTON

WESTFIELD — A nine-run second inning jump-started No. 1 Westfield to a 20-4 Class D quarterfinal victory over No. 8 Brocton.

The Wolverines pounded out 17 hits with five girls having multiple hits. Haleigh Dellow was 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored; Madyson Burgess went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs; Drew Ernewein went 3 for 4 with a double and four runs scored; Eva Gnadzinski went 2 for 4 with a triple and three runs scored; Sydney Hotchkiss went 2 for 5 with two RBIs; Mackenzie Schumaker tripled, drove in three runs and scored two runs; and Tanleigh Bestine drove in four runs for the Wolverines.

Dellow threw four innings of one-hit ball, striking out seven.

Joie Wisecarver hit a three-run double and Savanna Krystofiak had two hits, including a double, for the Bulldogs.

Westfield will host No. 5 Clymer/Sherman on Wednesday.

EAGLES EDGE PANAMA

ELLICOTTVILLE — Jaida Mendell tripled and scored two runs to lead No. 3 Ellicottville to a 7-6 Class D quarterfinal win over No. 6 Panama.

Jocelyn Wyatt doubled and scored two runs while Allison Rowland singled and scored twice for the Eagles.

Ande Northrup struck out three and walked two in a seven-hitter for Ellicottville, which will travel to No. 2 North Collins on Wednesday.

Mandy Brink had two hits and Kylie Morgan tripled for the Panthers. Jessica Lyon and Emma Cooper combined on a five-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks.

LUCAS TOSSES GEM FOR ‘BILLIES

FREDONIA — Jordan Lucas struck out 14, walked one and gave up just one hit as No. 2 Fredonia defeated No. 7 Akron 3-0 in the Section VI Class B2 softball quarterfinals on Thursday in Fredonia.

The Hillbillies offense struggled to provide run support for Lucas, but did get on the board in the third inning. Erin Schrantz led off with a walk and then scored on a Sarah Davis double. Lila Cameron then added on the insurance with a base knock that scored Davis.

“It was first playoff game jitters,” Fredonia head coach Jesse Beers said about the struggles at the plate. “They were overanxious and chasing pitches. We need to do a better job at the plate with our ball selection.”

Lucas helped her own cause in the fourth when she doubled and was hit home by Jaelyn Davis to lead 3-0.

Akron threatened to score in the sixth with a leadoff double, but Lucas stayed composed in the circle and kept the Tigers off the board.

The Hillbillies will host No. 3 Royalton-Hartland on Tuesday.

CLYMER/SHERMAN ADVANCES

WEST VALLEY — No. 5 Clymer/Sherman led 7-0 after the top of the fifth inning and held off No. 4 West Valley for a 7-5 Class D quarterfinal win.

The Wolves will travel to No. 1 Westfield on Wednesday.

MARAUDERS BOUNCED BY EAGLES

LAKE SHORE –Errors allowed the game and the season to get away from No. 5 Dunkirk, which fell 8-2 to No. 4 Lake Shore in the Class B1 quarterfinals.

“It was a tight game the whole time,” Dunkirk head coach Tonia Piede said. “It could have been a different game had we not made the errors we did.”

Jamaladie Pacheco pitched all seven innings for the Marauders, giving up eight hits, striking out two and walking three.

Dunkirk managed just five hits in the contest: two singles from Alyssa Salerno, who also scored; and singles from Angelina Piede, Jamaladie Pacheco and Courtney Zatorski. Aaliyah Morales scored a run.

Lake Shore was led by its pitcher Liz Jarzynski, who threw all seven innings, struck out seven, walked eight and gave up five hits. Jarzynski also hit two doubles, a single and had two RBIs. Riley Persinger hit two doubles and had two RBIs.

Lake Shore advances to the semifinals to play No. 1 Depew on Tuesday.
