FREWSBURG — Frewsburg had a Senior Game to remember Monday afternoon.

Elise Sposato’s squeeze bunt scored Tyra Clark with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to send the Bears to a 2-1 victory over Chautauqua Lake in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West softball game at the Robert H. Jackson Athletic Complex.

“I always talk about how anybody can beat anybody on any given night,” Frewsburg coach Jon Blanchard said. “I’m just real happy how my seniors played. Tyra with that winning run on the squeeze bunt was pretty special.”

The victory improved the Bears’ record to 8-4 overall and 6-3 in the league while the Thunderbirds fell to 8-2 and 7-1 after their second straight loss.

Reagan Chitester was the winning pitcher, yielding three hits, striking out 11 and walking four. The only run she allowed came in the top of the fifth inning when Sienna Collins singled and later scored on a passed ball.

Chautauqua Lake’s Olivia Herrington was perfect in the circle through four innings. She was replaced by Cayzlee Johnson, who kept Frewsburg off the board in the bottom of the fifth.

But the Bears rallied in their next at-bat.

Corinne McLaughlin led off the inning with a single and Jacey Cappa was called in to pinch run. Clark followed with an infield single, which allowed Cappa to reach third base. With runners at the corners, Clark and Cappa successfully executed a double steal, allowing Cappa to score the tying run and Clark to reach third.

Herrington returned to the circle to face Sposato, who laid down a successful squeeze bunt, allowing Clark to score what turned out to be the winning run.

In the top of the seventh, Chitester recorded the first two outs, walked two and then struck out the final batter to end the game.

“Reagan is showing she is doing what she needs to do in the circle,” Blanchard said.

Chitester helped her own cause with a double, and McLaughlin and Clark each had a single for the Bears.

Jenna Waters, Collins and Johnson had a single apiece for the Thunderbirds.
