Jackson Pitches Gem, JCC Sweeps Onondaga CC

SYRACUSE — Bryce Jackson pitched a gem Sunday.

His Jamestown Community College teammates were pretty good, too.

Combined the Jayhawks earned a sweep of their NJCAA Region 3 Division baseball doubleheader.

Jackson (3-1) pitched a four-hit, 13-strikeout, three-walk masterpiece and Jamestown CC scored the lone run on an RBI single by Chris Navarro in the top of the seventh inning. The base hit scored Lucas Porpiglia, who had one of the Jayhawks’ three hits. Zach Zulawski tallied the other one for the Jayhawks against Ryan Page, who struck out seven and walked four for Onondaga CC.

In the second game, Billy Harmon collected three hits, including a double, and Yordangel Gonzalez and Wyatt Hennessy also had doubles to support winning pitcher Tanner Potter (1-2), who scattered four hits, struck out six and walked three in six innings. Nate Johnson worked the bottom of the seventh for the save.

Devin Rooney took the loss for Onondaga CC as he yielded five runs, six hits, struck out four and walked one in four innings. Seth Zurbruegg worked the final three innings, giving up a run, two hits and a walk. He struck out five. Jake Humes had a double, and Mike Bennedetto added a triple.

The sweep improved the Jayhawks’ record to 6-7 overall and 5-3 in Region 3 Division III.

GOLF

GRAY SHOOTS 79

MARCELLUS — In the backend of their back-to-back matches, the Jamestown Community College golf team competed at the Lazers Invite, hosted by Onondaga Community College, at Sunset Ridge Golf Club on Saturday.

The Jayhawks placed fifth out of six teams, shooting a 386 on a wet and breezy afternoon.

“Our guys rebounded from our prior outing,” said head coach George Sisson. “Having competed against someone other than your teammates, there’s a learning curve and our guys have picked that up quickly. Traden (Gray) got off to a slow start, but was consistent on the back nine. Noah (Adams) has also shown me that he could handle the course conditions.”

Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg) bounced back from first collegiate outing, placing fifth with a score of 79 on the par 72 course. Noah Adams (Mayville /Chautauqua Lake Central) finished with a 97, which put him in 25th place. Kyle Smallback (Randolph/Randolph HS) also made some improvement from his first outing, placing 28th with a score of 99; Trevor Harrington (Arcade/Pioneer Central) came in 33th place with a score of 111, while Josh Brown (Randolph/Randolph) placed 36th with a round score of 113.
