Herrington Throws Gem For T’Birds

BEMUS POINT — Olivia Herrington tossed a two-hitter and struck out 14 to lead Chautauqua Lake to a 6-0 Division 2 West softball victory over Maple Grove on Thursday.

Cayzlee Johnson added two hits, including a double, Elie Riedesel drove in a pair of runs, and Herrington and Sienna Collins also had a hit for the Thunderbirds.

Lydia Darr took the loss for the Red Dragons despite allowing just two hits and striking out seven. She did walk nine.

Megan Lockwood smacked a triple and Erin Mansfield added the other hit for Maple Grove.

BROCTON HANGS ON

BROCTON — Behind three hits and three RBIs from Savanna Krystofiak, Brocton jumped out to a 9-0 lead and held on for a 10-7 Division 1 East victory over Pine Valley.

Julia Miller, Angeline Rexford and Hailey Carlson all had three hits for the Bulldogs, while Lorin Rizzo (double) and Haleigh Furman both had two for the winners, who collected 19 hits. Chyanne Whittaker added a double and two RBIs. Madison Sears was credited with the win in the circle.

For Pine Valley, Autumn Ellis had three hits and three RBIs to lead the way. Jenna Robbins also had three hits, Kaitlin Hayes and Sydney Dahl added two apiece, and Trista Farnham chipped in a double.

LOCKWOOD, HUTCHISON SHINE

SILVER CREEK — Amber Lockwood and Kaylee Hutchison did the job in the circle as Silver Creek defeated Forestville 6-1 in a Division 1 East game.

Lockwood struck out six and walked one in four innings, while Hutchison struck out eight over the final three frames.

Caitlyn Rice collected two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for the Black Knights (3-0, 2-0). Hutchison helped her own cause with a double.

Megan Gruber tossed a six-hitter for the Hornets.

PORTVILLE PREVAILS

PORTVILLE — Teagan Kosinski (double) and Mallory Welty (two RBIs) smacked three hits apiece to highlight Portville’s 12-8 Division 2 East victory over Ellicottville.

Madison Ford added two hits and drove in four runs for the winners in support of Welty, the winning pitcher.

Addison Rowland had three hits and two RBIs, and Jaida Mendell collected a pair of hits and had two RBIs for the Eagles.

BEARS SCORE 13 LATE

FREWSBURG — The top six hitters in Frewsburg’s order combined for 17 of the Bears’ 18 hits in a 19-7 Division 2 West victory over Clymer/Sherman.

Reagan Chitester was 3 for 5 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored while Braelyn Stelmack had three hits and four RBIs. Peyton Yost had three hits with a double while Elise Sposato and Cadence Rodgers also had three hits. Teghan Trocki chipped in a pair of hits in the victory.

The Wolves led 7-6 after the top of the fifth inning, but Frewsburg (4-3, 2-2) scored 13 runs in its final two at-bats.

Chitester and Trocki combined for five strikeouts in the circle and none of Clymer/Sherman’s seven runs were earned.

Karlen Honey had two hits while Janelle Burchanowski and Kaitlyn Lindsey each had one for the Wolves (1-5, 0-4).

FALCONER BLANKS GATORS

FALCONER — Kayla Lynn and Ashton Beckerink each had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Falconer to a 15-0 five-inning Division 1 West win over Allegany-Limestone.

Kaidyn Lundgren and Emily Melquist each had two hits for the Golden Falcons (4-1, 3-1).

Emily Rhinehart, pitching in her varsity debut, combined with Ashleah Youngberg on a three-hit shutout in the circle.

The Gators fell to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in the league.

HUSKIES TOP TROJANS

WEST ELLICOTT — The Olean Huskies continued their strong start to Division 1 West play with a 16-1 at Southwestern.

The Huskies limited the Trojans to just two hits, singles from Teagan Shedd and Maddy Crisanti. Southwestern’s only run was scored by Brynne Conley.

Olean was led by Makenna Pancio going 4 for 5 with a double and JoJo Gibbons going 3 for 4 with two doubles.

Southwestern (0-5, 0-4) is back in action today at home against Allegany-Limestone. Olean (5-3, 4-0) is at Clarence on Saturday.
