Fredonia Throws Out Tying Run At Plate For 5-4 Win

FALCONER — Fredonia took a lead in the top of the seventh inning and then threw out the potential tying run at the plate to end the game en route to a 5-4 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West victory over Falconer on Tuesday.

The Golden Falcons (0-1, 0-1) led 4-1 going into the top of the fifth inning before the Hillbillies (2-0, 2-0) rallied. Nevaeh Zadzilka hit a single to right-center field before Jordan Lucas hit a two-run home run to left-center field.

The score remained 4-3 until the top of the seventh inning when Hallie Laurito singled and Jaelyn Davis reached on a pinch-hit walk. Sarah Davis then sacrificed the runners to second and third before a wild pitch plated Laurito with the tying run. Lila Cameron then hit a sacrifice fly to give Fredonia a 5-4 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Hillbillies quickly got two outs before Dani Krenzer doubled to left-center field. Fredonia then elected to intentionally walk Tess Spangenburg, but one of the pitches got away allowing Krenzer to advance to third base. On the throw back to the pitcher after the fourth ball, Krenzer attempted to score from third, but Lucas threw to catcher Kyleigh Waterman for the final out at home.

Spangenburg went 2 for 3 with a three-run home run and a double. Kayla Lynn also had two hits for Falconer. Lynn and Ashton Beckerink combined on a seven-hitter with five strikeouts.

For the Hillbillies, Lucas threw a six-hitter with two walks and a hit batter while striking out 11. Lucas and Laurito each had two hits while Zadzilka, Gaby Matos and Sarah Davis each singled.

DUNKIRK

POWERS PAST TROJANS

WEST ELLICOTT — Courtney Zatorski went 3 for 5 with a double, a triple and five RBIs as Dunkirk beat Southwestern 18-3 in Division 1 West action.

Gracey Kenner tripled while Summer Clark and Angelina Piede each doubled for the Marauders, who scored six runs in the second inning, five runs in the fifth inning and six runs in the seventh inning. Zatorsky hit a two-run double in the fifth and a two-run triple in the seventh.

Jamaladie Pacheco struck out six in a seven-hitter for Dunkirk (1-0, 1-0).

Alli Durnell went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a double; Teagan Shedd went 2 for 3 with an RBI; and Lia Constantino doubled for the Trojans (0-2, 0-2).

JOHNSON

SHINES IN CIRCLE

MAYVILLE — Cayzlee Johnson threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk as Chautauqua Lake beat Clymer/Sherman 13-1 in five innings of Division 2 West play.

Jenna Waters gave the Thunderbirds (2-0, 2-0) a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the hosts scored three more in the third, four in the fourth and five in the fifth.

Olivia Herrington had three singles while Waters and Johnson had two hits apiece. Lucy Gates chipped in a triple and three RBIs while Mallory Morrison and Elise Riedesel each doubled for Chautauqua Lake.

Hayden Fisher had two hits, including a double, Janelle Burchanowski hit a fourth-inning home run, and Kaitlyn Lindsey had a single for Clymer/Sherman (0-1, 0-1).

PANAMA ESCAPES WITH WIN

PANAMA — Panama cut down to runners at the plate with the bases loaded in the seventh inning to preserve a 13-9 Division 2 West victory over Maple Grove.

The Red Dragons (0-1, 0-1) led 5-0 after the top of the first inning before the Panthers (1-0, 1-0) scored four times in the first and five times in the second to take a 9-5 lead.

Kylie Morgan led the Panama offense with two hits, three runs scored and an RBI. Mandy Brink doubled while Sarah Harvey, Maddie Lisciandro, Corinne Hovey and Kaitlyn Horton each had a single. Brink, Harvey, Horton and Kylie Range each scored two runs.

Emma Cooper and Jessica Lyon combined on a seven-hitter with four strikeouts for the Panthers.

Courtney Martin doubled and scored twice while Erin Mansfield and Erin Nolan each singled and scored twice for Maple Grove. Tessa Reed, Lydia Darr, Eliza Dawes and Harper Dawes had the Red Dragons’ other singles.

Darr struck out five in a seven-hitter in the circle.

RED RAIDERS WIN

ALLEGANY — The Jamestown Red Raiders rolled past Allegany-Limestone 18-5 in five innings for a Division 1 West victory.

The Red Raiders (1-0, 1-0) scored 11 runs in the first inning against the Gators, chasing starting pitcher Kearstin Foster.

Lindsey Spitz scored four runs for the Red Raiders, reaching base on two walks and a single. Both Raegan Powers and Kylie O’Brien hit two singles and scored three runs and Aubrey Reynolds walked twice, hit a single and scored two runs.

Spitz earned the win in the circle for Jamestown with three strikeouts, three walks and three hits.
