Butterfield Shines In Olean

Sprinter Named Most Outstanding, Leads Southwestern To Boys Small School Title

OLEAN — Highlighted by two first-place finishes from Michael Butterfield, Southwestern claimed the boys Small School title at the Olean Boosters/Ried’s Food Barn Track & Field Invitational on Saturday.

The junior sprinter captured the 100 meters and 200 meters (11.41 and 22.96, respectively) en route to being named the Fay Cousen’s Most Outstanding Track Athlete.

But Butterfield had help.

Teammate Trenton Shutters, a senior, posted a winning time of 2:00.29 in the 800 meters and Ethan Luce, also a senior, finished second in the 3,200 meters in 10:27.80 for the Trojans. Also helping Coach Jay Sirianni’s crew were first-place finishes in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter relays.

All told, Southwestern finished with 99 points, 15 in front of second-place Randolph. Falconer/Cassadaga Valley was third (74) and Frewsburg (42) was fifth to close out the area teams in the top five.

Other standout individual performances among local athletes included Sam Eimiller of Maple Grove, first in the 110-meter hurdles (15:47) and second in the high jump (6-2); Devin Austin of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley, first in the high jump (6-2) and second in the long jump (20-2); Roan Kelly of Randolph, first in the 1,600 meters (4:24.48); and Taylor Rowland, also of Randolph, first in the 400 meters (52.99).

Second-place finishers were Landon Stormer of Frewsburg in the 200 meters (23.14); Jacob Constantino of Frewsburg in the 400 meters (53.12); Alex Reynolds of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley in the 800 meters (2:11.63); and Clayton Course of Randolph in the pole vault (11-9).

The Fay Cousen’s Most Outstanding Field Athlete was Keegan Mancabelli of Orchard Park, who set a meet record with a pole vault of 15-1.

Lancaster claimed the Large School team title with 122 points, followed by Orchard Park with 95. Jamestown finished sixth with 42 points.

GIRLS

NAPOLEON BRILLIANT

Franklinville/Ellicottville claimed the girls team title with 90 points, 15 more than second-place Allegany-Limestone, but it was the Gators’ Angelina Napolean who stood tall above everyone else.

The junior won the high jump (5-1), the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.61), the 3,000 meters (10:26.98) and the 1,500 meters (4:35.66), a meet record.

The other area first-place finisher was Corinne Inkley of Randolph in the pole vault (9-3). Double individual victories were turned in by Madison Francis of Lancaster in the 100 meters (12.9) and 200 meters (26.18), and Alyssa Dorrough of Wellsville, the Fay Cousen’s Most Outstanding Field Athlete, in the shot put (32-5) and discus (94.06).
