Helt, Moore, Marshall Compete At State Meet

ITHACA -- Competing with the best.
Panama/Maple Grove/Chautauqua Lake's RJ Helt and David Marshall, and Frewsburg/Southwestern's Gannon Moore competed with the very best boys swimmers and divers on Friday at the New York State Public High School and New York State Federation boys swimming and diving championships at Ithaca College.
Helt was competing in both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle swims, looking for a top-27 finish to make it to today's finals.
Helt's first race was in the 200-yard freestyle where he was seeded coming into the meet as the 47th swimmer of the 54 competitors. Helt finished with the 42nd best time, five spots ahead of his seed placement, with a time of 1:47.69.
Helt then swam in the 100-yard where he was seeded 52 out of 57 swimmers. Helt came in 48th and finished with a time of 49.56 to jump four spots higher than his original seeding.
Frewsburg/Southwestern's Moore took part in the 100-yard backstroke and finished 37th with a time of 54.99.
David Marshall was the lone Section VI participant in the diving competition. Marshall finished in 29th place overall. The winner of the diving competition was Daley Fraser of Pittsford from Section V.
