Girls Intersectional Championship Is Today

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua Lake is hosting the third annual Girls Intersectional Wrestling Championship Tournament today.

The tournament features over 50 girls from sections III, IV, V and VI.

Wrestling starts at 10:30 a.m. with finals scheduled for approximately 4:30 p.m.

Some of the top wrestlers in the 102-pound weight class include General Brown’s Zoey Jewett, Jamestown’s Skylynn Tomlinson, Tonawanda’s Brenna McCarley and Falconer’s Brook Pryll.

Jewett is an eighth-grader with a 17-13 record. She placed third at the Section III Class C tournament and fourth at the Anderson Memorial Tournament.

Tomlinson is a senior who placed fourth at the Section VI Class AA tournament and fourth at the Portville Tournament.

McCarly is a sophomore who won the North Tonawanda Lady Jack Tournament.

Pryll is a junior who won the Linda Knuutila Memorial Tournament.

Some of the top wrestlers at the 110-pound weight class include Bolivar-Richburg’s Teegan Sibble, Lockport’s Maleah McKinney-Updegraph, Keshequa’s Alivia Cartwright and Tonawanda’s Hannah McCarley.

Sibble is a freshman with a 37-7 record. She became the first girl in Section V to win a class title when she beat Lyndonville’s Christian Garver 5-3 at the Class BBB Championships.

McKinney-Updegraph is a junior who took third at the Section VI Class AA tournament.

Cartwright is an eighth-grader who took first at the Webster Tournament, second at the Chautauqua Lake Tournament and sixth at the Section V Class BBB Championships.

McCarley is a sophomore with a 22-16 record. She took first at North Tonawanda and second at the Linda Knuutila Memorial Tournament.

The 118-pound weight class will feature Lake Shore’s Alexiya Thuman and Livonia’s Ady West, among others.

Thuman is a freshman with a 13-4 record — only one loss came to a girl. She took first at North Tonawanda and at Eden.

West is a sophomore who wook second at the Monroe County Girls League Championships.

Tioga’s Emily Sindoni, Lyndonville’s Catelynn Kidney, East Rochester’s Jayme Taylor and Midlakes’ Olivia Miles will be featured at 126 pounds.

Sindoni is a junior with a 9-5 record for New York State Public High School Division II state champion Tioga. She took third at the Tioga Tournament and first at the Bradshaw Tournament.

Kidney is a senior who took second at the Monroe County Girls League Championships.

Taylor is a junior who took first at Webster and Miles is a sophomore who took second at the Monroe County Girls League Championships.

At 132 pounds will be Penfield’s Ellanora Bode and Iroquois’ Michaela Thomas.

Bode is a junior who took first at Bradshaw and third at Penfield while Thomas is an eighth-grader who took first at the Linda Knuutila Memorial Tournament and second at North Tonawanda.

Lewiston-Porter’s Meghan Edwards and Chautauqua Lake’s Mia Smith will be featured at 138 pounds.

Edwards is a junior who took first at North Tonawanda and second at the Linda Knuutila Memorial Tournament.

Smith is a freshman who took first at Eden, second at Chautauqua Lake and second at North Tonawanda.

The 145-pound weight class is described as “deep with a lot of talented girls, any of whom could make the podium.”

West Seneca West’s Christina Evans is a sophomore who took first at Chautauqua Lake, North Tonawanda and the Linda Knuutila Memorial Tournament.

Hailey DeGroff is a junior from Warsaw who was the Most Outstanding Wrestler at Chautauqua Lake and also took first at North Tonawanda and the Monroe County Girls League Championships.

Emylee Baile of Portville is a sophomore who was the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Linda Knuutila Memorial Tournament.

The 172-pound weight class features Canandaigua’s Sophie Pollack. She is a junior who is ranked No. 10 in the country by FloWrestling. Pollack took first at Coxsackie-Athens, Bradshaw and Chautauqua Lake.
