Curling Leagues
Northwest Arena recently hosted Week 3 of Winter Backyard Curling Leagues sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique.
5:45 JARED ZAHN/ERA REALTOR MONDAY LEAGUE
Shoeless Joe’s went 2-0 with wins over Fruit of the Brooms 38-31 and Pepsi Sparks 35-23 to stay in a tie at the top of the division as Chad Waddington led the way.
Sonic Sliders stayed at the top also going 2-0 on the week as they defeated TRCurlers 38-36 and War Vets 37-29. Rod Morganstern was the top curler.
Haggy’s Booze Haggz captured the biggest win of the night as they defeated defending champion Fruit of the Brooms 34-28 with Nicole Snyder being their leading curler.
Legion of Broom pulled out a victory over War Vets 47-30 on Mike Dietrick’s outstanding play.
Pepsi Sparks knocked off Haggy’s 32-21 as Jamie Billquist led the way.
TRCurlers defeated Legion of Broom 39-34 as Tod Szczech was their top scorer.
6:45 JARED ZAHN/ERA REALTOR MONDAY LEAGUE
Glass House Gang remained undefeated going 2-0 this week with wins over Ice Hearts 29-28 and On The Rocks 29-21 with captain Brian Rovegno leading the charge.
Also going 2-0 was TOMTE’ Curlers as Ericka Thomas led the way over Stark Gravel Product 38-29 and Chadakoin Curling Crew 36-33.
Short & Curly got back to their winning ways with wins over Sip & Sliders 26-24 and Pickle Pushers 40-16 with strong play from John Fisk and Sam Stewart.
Pickle Pushers recorded their first win over Lakeshore Paving 33-31 as Janet Calabrese was their leading curler.
Lakeshore Paving bounced back and took bragging rights over Stark Gravel Products 33-23 as Donald Liden outcurled James Lacki.
Sip & Sliders earned their first win of their curling careers with a 28-24 victory over Ice Hearts with Jen Hefright being their first star.
On the Rocks defeated Chadakoin Curling Crew 32-24 behind strong play from super-sub Matt Cummings.
5:30 STEVE CHAMBERS @ LUV TOYOTA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE
Had A Few continue to move up the standings with a big night with wins over Cats Who Curl 38-27 and league-leading Hindy’s Hurlers 31-27 behind strong play from Brenda Munella and Amy Youngberg.
Also going 2-0 on the night was Curl Jam as they also bested the Silver Stones 37-27 and Curls Night Out 38-35 with star performances from Rachel Johnson and Blaire Borst.
Hindy’s Hurlers, behind Tim Hurley, opened up their night by knocking off Stone Cold Maidens with a 41-25 victory.
Stone Cold Maidens bounced back with a win of their own as they topped Girls with Stones 27-11 with strong play from rookie Wayne Phillips.
Curls Night Out bested Girls with Stones 25-17 with Kim Barber being the first star.
Cats Who Curl picked up their first career curling win as they defeated the Silver Stones 35-31 with newcomer Josh Melquist being their top curler.
6:30 STEVE CHAMBERS @ LUV TOYOTA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE
The Brushoffs took over the top spot after three weeks of play with wins over Smokin Rocks 39-20 and Legion of Broom 47-30 with Jenn Swanson being their top curler.
Geriatric Curling Machine went 2-0 on the week as they defeated The Icemen 43-40 and Lakefront Stoners 19-15 with strong play from Tom Lassen and Rhonda Yachetta.
Lewis & Lewis I improved their record to 4-2 with wins over family rival Lewis & Lewis II 17-13 and The Icemen 31-30 as the brothers, Jim and George Panebianco, were outstanding.
Cold As Ice moved up the standings with a complete team effort by the Eversons and the Rickers by defeating Lakefront Stoners 52-25 and Curling Me Softly 37-27.
Going 1-1 on the night and defeating Smoking Rocks 30-27 was Curls Gone Wild with Mark Snow being the top curler.
12 oz. Curlers had a stellar performance from Kevin Gastol as they knocked off Curls Gone Wild 43-20 and Lewis & Lewis II 24-18.
7:30 STEVE CHAMBERS @ LUV TOYOTA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE
The Stone Crushers jumped up in the standings this week going 2-0 by defeating Got Stones 36-23 and Curl Power as the team was carried by Dana and Mindy Lawson-Crabtree.
Improving their record to 6-0 with two wins was Dot’s Gift Boutique by defeating KIA Curling Crew 40-29 and Haggy’s Jr. Curling Crew 46-39 with the veteran Rex McCray showing his curling prowess.
Chad Van Every led Rand Machine to two victories over Snow Good at This 41-35 and Sub Zero 36-30.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Stone took out Sub Zero 42-26 behind strong play from Alli Bowman.
Curl Power had a thrilling 51-50 overtime win over Sloan Melhuish as Jen Scolton led the Curls and Kym Eimiller was stellar for Sloan Melhuish in defeat.
Snow Good at This also defeated Sloan Melhuish 35-20 thanks to Leigh Anne Hendrick’s outstanding play.
Haggy’s Jr Curling Crew upended Neil’s Propane 23-6 in a low-scoring affair as Cade Egan led the way.
Sean Egan also showed his curling skills, as he led KIA Curling Crew past Got Stones 24-9.
4:30 RYAN DEPPAS/LEGEND GROUP FRIDAY LEAGUE
Haggy’s 4 Below brought home two wins with victories over Tracey’s Dog 38-37 and Seminar Group 40-37 to take over first place as they were led by Eric Hagglund.
Sweeping Beauties captured two wins over Premier Listings 51-21 and Cold Beer Here 18-15 as Kathy Ludwig was their top curler.
The Chestnuts also defeated Cold Beer Here 46-24 and Team BANG 45-36 behind strong play from Dawn Columbare.
We’re on Time knocked off the Bemus Boulders 43-36 and Primier Listings 29-18 as they were led by Shawn Nowing.
Seminar Group won a nail-biter 45-44 over Team BANG behind stellar play from Wayne Rishell.
Bemus Boulders slid past Tracey’s Dog 34-27 as Peter Sullivan carried the Boulders to victory.
