Wolverines Net Big Win Over Falconer 84-33

WESTFIELD — Carson Swanson was on fire Thursday night, leading Westfield to an 84-33 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West basketball victory over Falconer.

The freshman poured in 25 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the arc and 6 of 7 from the foul line. Darien Swanson added 17 points, five assists, six steals and two blocks; Ethan Weingart chipped in 9 points, and Cole Holland and Ian Emery both had 8 points for the Wolverines, who improved to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the division.

HILLBILLIES SUFFER ROAD LOSS

ALLEGANY — Tyler Curran scored 20 points to go along with eight assists, six steals, four rebounds and two blocks to lead Allegany-Limestone to a 58-40 CCAA Division 1 West victory over Fredonia.

Madox Delong added 13 points for the Gators (6-4, 2-1), who led 18-6 after the first quarter and 36-21 at halftime. The hosts limited the Hillbillies to three points in the third period to put the game out of reach.

Fredonia is now 4-4 overall and 0-3 in the division.

WARRIORS WIN BIG

SALAMANCA — The Salamanca Warriors (3-0, 8-1) stayed perfect in Division 1 West action after dismantling the Dunkirk Marauders 93-41.

By halftime the Warriors had already put the game out of reach amassing a 50-18 lead.

“When we play active and together it’s really fun to watch,” stated Salamanca head coach Adam Bennett. “I’m really proud of our guys tonight.”

Lucus Brown was at the forefront of the Warriors offense again, scoring 25 points, grabbing seven rebounds and making four steals. Andy Herrick also hit double-digits with 15 points; Harley Hoag scored 14 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, made six assists and swatted two blocks; RJ McLarney scored 8, grabbed 13 rebounds and had four blocks; Cole Hedlund scored 12 and made eight rebounds; and Hayden Hoag score 2, assisted 12, made five steals and grabbed nine rebounds.

Marcel Carter led Dunkirk (0-3, 6-5) in scoring with 13 points.

BLACK KNIGHTS FALL

SILVER CREEK — Silver Creek’s rally came up just short and it fell to Portville 63-53 in a CCAA Central Division game.

Luke Petruzzi scored 21 points, and Aiden DeFazio and Maxx Yehl added 18 apiece for the Panthers (5-7, 3-2), who saw their 14-point fourth-quarter lead trimmed to 2, but they finished on an 8-0 to hold on for the victory.

Troy VanSickle pulled down 10 rebounds and Yehl had eight.

Ray Cortes led Silver Creek (5-4, 1-3) with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Matt Woleben chipped in 18 points and Caleb Fiegl grabbed six boards.

SINCLAIRVILLE — Gavin Smith poured in 22 points to highlight Frewsburg’s 63-43 Central Division victory over Cassadaga Valley.

Connor Murray added 14 points and Zach Winters had 12 for the Bears (5-6, 4-1), who outscored the Cougars 23-3 in the third quarter.

Wyatt Harrington led Cassadaga Valley (3-1), 1-5) with 11 points and Jarret Runge had 10.

TROJANS LOSE AT OLEAN

OLEAN — Jack DeRose scored 21 points and Zion James had 20 to lead Olean to a 63-44 Division 1 West victory over Southwestern.

The Huskies (9-0, 3-0) led 17-14 after the first quarter and 30-22 at halftime, and limited thee the Trojans (4-12, 1-2) to 22 points after intermission.

CARRIS LEADS WILDCATS

MAYVILLE — The Sherman Wildcats (3-0, 5-3) held off the Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds for a 44-36 Division 2 West win.

After knotting the game up in the fourth quarter, Chautauqua Lake had its eyes on a victory, until Gerrald Carris came up big. Carris made his money at the charity stripe for the Wildcats going a perfect 7-for-7 in the fourth quarter alone.

“We had a good run in the fourth quarter,” stated Chautauqua Lake head coach Alex Reyda. “We evened the game up but fell short. Carris came up big for them at the free throw line.”

Carris finished the night with 28 points and seven rebounds; Elijah Kioko added 3 points, six rebounds and four steals; and Treyvon Kopta scored 2 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Thunderbirds (2-3, 4-7) were led by Lawson Ormsby with 12 points, five blocks and four rebounds; and Kalen Miller score 5, made six steals, grabbed six rebounds and dished three assists.

BROCTON — The Clymer Pirates defeated the Brocton Bulldogs 72-26 in West 2 action.

The Pirates were led by Austin White with 18 points, six assists and seven steals; Blake Kopta scored 12, assisted three and made two steals; Micah Willink scored 12, grabbed six rebounds, made three steals and recorded one block; and Owen White scored 8 points, grabbed three rebounds, made three assists and grabbed a steal.

The Bulldogs top scorer was Ryan Laurito with 7 points.

TIMBERWOLVES PREVAIL

CATTARAUGUS — The Ellicottville Eagles fell to the Cattaraugus-Little Valley Timberwolves 60-50 in East Division action.

After a close first quarter the Timberwolves (1-1, 8-3) opened up the game in the second where they built a 32-19 lead headed into halftime. In the fourth quarter Ellicottville pushed for a comeback and outscored Cattaraugus-Little Valley 20-12, but that was not enough as the Timberwolves held on for the 60-50 victory.

The Eagles (0-1, 1-7) were led by Logan Grinols scoring 18 points, hitting two 3-pointers, grabbing seven steals, dishing two assists and picking up five rebounds. Braylon Wyatt added 8 points, a 3-pointer, one steal, one block and five rebounds; and Caedon Wyatt scored 8 points, made four steals and collected four rebounds.
