Rebels Fall To Black Bears 4-1

Three first-period goals stood up as Maryland defeated Jamestown 4-1 Saturday to earn a split of their North American Hockey League weekend series at Northwest Arena.

The Black Bears (21-7-3-3), who lost to the Rebels in a shootout on Friday, outshot the hosts 37-17, using goals by Aden Bruich, Branden Piku and Brad McNeil — all within a six-minute stretch of the opening stanza — to build their lead.

Piku added a second goal at the 4:53 mark of the second period to push Maryland’s lead to 4-0 before Jamestown’s Max Hamstad, assisted by Marcus Kivela Carlzon and Ethan Janda, ended the shutout bid at the 11:26 mark of the final period.

Trayce Johnson, Matthew Davies, Ryan Bottrill (two), Luke VanWhy, Bruich, Aidan McDowell and Dimitry Kebreau all added assists for the winners.

Marcus Kivela Carlzon and Ethan Janda were credited with assists for Jamestown (18-15-2-1).

Michael Morell made 16 saves in goal for the Black Bears. Jon Howe was the losing goalie for the Rebels. Teammate Nolan Suggs also saw work between the pipes.
