JCC Men Fall To No. 13 Niagara County CC
SANBORN — Facing the No. 13 team in the country, the Jamestown Community College men’s basketball team fell to Niagara County CC 100-76 in NJCAA Region 3 Division II action Wednesday.
The Jayhawks (2-17, 0-2 Region 3) were led by guard Josiah Ransom (Orange Park, FL/Helena HS) with his first collegiate double-double, scoring 13 points while grabbing 10 boards, while guard Elgin Oliver (Monroeville, PA/Gateway Senior HS) scored a game-high 25 points on 10 of 14 shooting from the field 10-for-14 from the field. Guard Brian Fajardo (Bronx, NY/Aeci Charter HS) added 10 points.

Just because the Thunderwolves are ranked in the country, didn’t mean that JCC wasn’t going to give them a fight. Starting his night, Ransom knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to give the Jayhawks an early 6-3 lead. NCCC battled back and took their first lead of the game at the 13:49 mark with a three-pointer from Allen Fordham to make it 13-10. The Thunderwolves used that to score 13 unanswered to go up 21-10 with under 10 minutes until halftime.
Trailing 51-29 at the half, the Jayhawks trimmed the lead to 13 as Farajdo found forward Gonzalo Luque (Madrid, Spain/Instituto Ortega y Gasset) for an emphatic dunk followed up by a made basket from forward Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS), but they didn’t get any closer.
The Jayhawks went 31-for-63 (49.2%) from the floor while the Thunderwolves were 38-for-77 (49.4%) from the floor. NCCC held the advantage on the boards, grabbing 42 rebounds to JCC’s 34.
JCC WOMEN BOW
SANBORN — In their opening game of region play, the Jamestown Community College women’s basketball team fell to Niagara County Cc 91-59.
The Jayhawks (9-10, 0-1 Region 3) were led by forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) with 17 points, nine boards, and four assists while guard Sydney Burk (Jamestown, NY/Southwestern High) adding 13 points and nine rebounds. Guard Jessica Beehler (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) orchestrated the offense, finishing with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
JCC took the fight to the Thunderwolves, after falling behind 5-2, they rallied back and scored nine unanswered thanks to a pair of buckets from Beehler and a three-pointer from guard Kymi Nance (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS). NCCC did fight back but the Jayhawks held on to take a 16-13 advantage after the first frame.
Burk kept the momentum going in the second quarter, knocking down a 3-pointer off the feed from Nance to make it 19-16. JCC maintained a lead for a majority of the quarter before Niagara County CC made a layup in the closing seconds to take a 30-28 lead at the break.
The Thunderwolves came out of the break and took over the game, outscoring the Jayhawks 34-13 in the third period which helped them take the first of three games between the teams this season.
JCC went 25-for-60 (41.7%) from the field while Niagara County CC went 37-for-84 (44%) from the floor. The Thunderwolves held the slight advantage on the boards, grabbing 44 rebounds to the Jayhawks’ 42 rebounds.
