Golden Cougars Take First Place In Gowanda

GOWANDA — Falconer/Cassadaga Valley took first place with 307.5 points, led by weight-class winners Dalton Caldwell (152 pounds) and Brodie Little (160 pounds) at the Gowanda Invitational on Saturday.

Niagara Wheatfield was second with 134 points and Maple Grove was third with 114 points, led by Most Outstanding Wrestler Luke Tomlinson, who won the 145-pound weight class with a pin in 3:02 over St. Francis’ Liam Edwards. Tomlinson improved to 34-1 on the season with 30 pins.

Matthew Trim was also victorious at 189 pounds for the Red Dragons.

Randolph was fourth with 105 points. Caden Inkley captured the 118-pound title with a 7-1 decision over Niagara Wheatfield’s Chase Richards; Luke Pagett claimed the 172-pound crown with an 8-1 decision over Fredonia/Silver Creek/Brocton/Forestville’s Dawson Russo; and Ryan Carpenter took the 285-pound title with a 9-4 overtime decision over Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s David Stein for the Cardinals.

St. Joe’s was fifth with 101.5 points, North Tonawanda was sixth with 99 points and Gowanda was seventh with 95.5 points.

Fredonia/Silver Creek/Brocton/Forestville was eighth with 85 points followed by Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama with 80 points. Gavin Burchanowski claimed the 102-pound title for the Thunderbirds with a 5-1 decision over Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Evan Newman.

St. Francis was next with 79 points followed by Dunkirk (77), Lockport (60), Warsaw (58), Franklinville (48), Olean/Allegany-Limestone (45), Salamanca (42) and Frewsburg (34).
