For the first time since its inception, Falconer/Cassadaga Valley will not be competing at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Wrestling Dual Meet Championships.

The Golden Cougars beat Iroquois in the semifinals, but lost to Newfane in the finals Saturday at Lancaster High School.

Newfane beat Falconer/Cassadaga Valley 43-24 to lock up its first trip to states.

The Panthers led 18-0 after three weights as Brayden Kellison-Neglia, Aiden Harris and Ayden Buttery all recorded pins.

Karsen DePasquale got the Golden Cougars on the scoreboard with a 3-2 decision at 132 pounds, but a pin from Aidan Gillings and a 4-0 decision by Adam Huntington gave Newfane a 27-3 lead.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley then won four straight weights to get back in the match.

First, Jacob Clark earned a 9-7 decision at 152 pounds and then Dalton Caldwell earned a takedown at 160 pounds. After Brodie Little was awarded a forfeit at 172 pounds, Devyn Morrison earned a takedown in 1:14 at 189 pounds.

With a trip to states in the balance, Newfane took over.

Simon Lingle’s pin in 4:23 at 215 pounds gave the Panthers a 33-24 lead before Charles Larose locked up a spot in Onondaga with a 4:57 pin at 285 pounds. Jakob Lucinski locked up the 19-point victory with an 11-2 major decision at 102 pounds.

Bryant Morrison’s pin at the three-minute mark of his 172-pound bout gave Falconer/Cassadaga Valley enough of a cushion to beat Iroquois in the semifinals.

Dylan Newman (102 pounds), Karsen Lundgren (110 pounds), Kailen Kinney (118 pounds) and Vinnie Bloomberg (126 pounds) won at the lightest four weights for the Golden Cougars. Clark (145 pounds) and Little (160 pounds) also had victories.
