Bears Earn Win Over Red Dragons

FREWSBURG — The Frewsburg Bears defeated the Maple Grove Red Dragons 61-35 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Central Division action on Wednesday.

Teghan Trocki got the Bears (12-2, 3-1) off to a hot start as she nailed three 3-pointers in the first quarter and scored 11 of her 21 total points. The Bears limited to Maple Grove to just three points in the quarter and led 16-3.

Maple Grove (6-8, 2-2) found its scoring touch in the middle quarters, but Frewsburg was consistent throughout as it racked up 61 points.

Frewsburg dominated the glass grabbing 51 rebounds as a team. Tyra Clark grabbed 23, Maddi Colver had 11 and Ava Jimerson collected 10. Trocki paced the Bears scoring with 21, Elise Sposato added 19 points and three assists and Taytum Jimerson made five steals.

The Red Dragons were led by Madi Price by with 11 points and eight rebounds, Erin Mansfield scored 8 points and grabbed six boards while Hannah Tarbrake dished four assists.

TROJANS TOP T’BIRDS

The Southwestern Trojans defeated the Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds 58-34 in a nonleague girls basketball game at Southwestern High School.

The Trojans jumped out to a 13-6 lead after the first quarter. They soon built on the lead in the middle periods, outscoring the Thunderbirds 34-16.

Chautauqua Lake managed to outscore Southwestern in the fourth quarter 12-11, but the damage had been done as the Trojans won 58-34.

Kira Ricker scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half to help Southwestern build its lead and she collected eight rebounds in the win. Reece Beaver led the Trojans in scoring with 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and made seven assists. Maddie McIntyre added 10 rebounds.

Chautauqua Lake was led Lily Woodis with 17 points.

SHINES FOR CARDS

PANAMA — Payton Morrison drilled four 3-pointers during a decisive third quarter to lead Randolph to a 56-38 victory over Panama in a nonleague basketball game Wednesday night.

The Cardinals trailed 22-20 at halftime, but went on a 22-9 run in the third period to build a lead and cruise to the victory.

Morrison finished with a game-high 23 points and added four steals; Kyra Pence added 12 points and 10 assists; and Zoelle Dickerson contributed eight rebounds for the winners (10-3).

Mandy Brink paced Panama (8-5) with 11 points, eight steals and six assists; Lily Odell scored 11 points; and Maddie Lisciandro added five rebounds.
