After running through the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association East Division with a perfect 10-0-0 record, it’s no surprise that Portville claimed most of the awards voted on by the league.

Senior Kyle Mathes was voted the Player of the Year, junior Michael Cole was voted Offensive MVP, senior Todd Stone was voted Defensive MVP, and JJ McIntosh was voted the Coach of the Year. Randolph’s Ben Hitchcock was voted the Sportsmanship Award while Grant Vincent was the Referee of the Year. The league’s top five players were voted in order of Mathes, Cole, Stone, Ellicottville’s Sam Edwards and Portville’s Christian Gariepy.

At forward on the first team was Cole who scored 16 goals and four assists for Portville. Joining Cole at forward is Pine Valley/Gowanda senior Wayne Libby who scored eight goals and two assists.

In the midfield was Mathes, Edwards, Gariepy and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley sophomore Ethyn Gilbert. Edwards earned his spot in the First-Team and top five thanks to his 20 goals and two assists. Gilbert was a maestro in the midfield for the Golden Cougars, scoring six goals and assisting 13 more.

The First-Team defense was composed of Stone, Portville senior Thomas Carls, Falconer/Cassadaga Valley sophomore Finley Pavlock, and Pine Valley/Gowanda freshman Noah Frontuto. Pavlock was a key piece to the Golden Cougars defense that sported a plus 30 goal differential and posted four clean sheets in league play. Frontuto, the youngest member of the First-Team, found ways to contribute from the back line scoring once and adding nine assists.

First-Team goalie was to no surprise Portville sophomore Troy VanSickle. VanSickle posted six shut outs in league play while on the season Portville just surrendered 11 total goals with a plus 50 goal differential.
