11-Seed Wolverines Knock Off 6-Seed Panthers In 4 Sets

PANAMA — The Westfield Wolverines advanced past the 6-seed Panama Panthers, 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 25-22 of the Section VI Class D volleyball prequarterfinals on Wednesday.
The 11-seed Wolverines were led by Tanleigh Bestine with 18 assists, five blocks and nine digs; Bianca Saeger with 10 kills, one ace and 10 digs; Keara Kincaid with seven kills, six blocks and seven digs; and Alysia Burgess with 12 digs.
The Panthers were paced by Lily Odell with nine kills, 16 digs and three aces; Sarah Harvey with nine kills, one block, eight digs and two aces; Mandy Brink with 10 assists, 26 digs, two aces, one block and one kill; Kylie Morgan with eight kills and seven blocks; and Mackenzie Greene with 14 assists.
Westfield’s victory sets up a quarterfinal match against 3-seed North Collins (12-2) on Friday. Panama finishes its season with a 12-7 overall record.
FORESTVILLE WINS IN 5

HOLLAND — The 12-seed Forestville Hornets upset 5-seed Holland, 23-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23 of the Section VI Class D volleyball prequarterfinals.
The Hornets’ effort was led by Makayla Press with 12 digs, 11 aces, one kill and 10 assists; Alena Thomas with seven kills and five blocks; Allie Vanvlack with three kills, four digs and five aces; and Graceann Rebmann with three kills, three aces and five digs.
Forestville’s victory sets up a date with 4-seed Maple Grove (13-5) on Friday.
CLYMER/SHERMAN WOLVES ADVANCE
SINCLAIRVILLE — The 9-seed Clymer/Sherman Wolves defeated 8-seed Cassadaga Valley, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23, in a Section VI Class D prequarterfinal.
Clymer/Sherman was led by Mikala Einink with 17 assists and two kills; Hayden Fisher with four aces, four kills, six digs and two blocks; Cora Goldberg with six kills, three aces and three blocks; and Natalie Johnson with four kills, four digs and one ace.
The Cougars were paced by Madison Ring with five blocks, four kills and two aces; Aystyn Barrett with four kills, three digs and one ace; Maddie Hattaway with 10 kills and three blocks; and Allison Wakelee with 24 assists and two aces.
In the quarterfinals, Clymer/Sherman will face off against 1-seed Chautauqua Lake (14-0). Cassadaga Valley finishes its season with a 11-8 overall record.
ELLICOTTVILLE MOVES ON
ELLICOTTVILLE — The 7-seed Ellicottville Eagles swept the 10-seed Pine Valley Panthers, 25-8, 26-24, 25-17, in a Section VI Class D prequarterfinal.
The Eagles were led by Allison Rowland with 10 kills, 21 digs and five aces; Natalee Leiper with 13 assists, 11 digs, three aces, two blocks and two kills; Dalayla Alexander with 11 digs and seven aces; and Tristin Bomberry with six kills, two aces and two blocks.
Ellicottville will play 2-seed Randolph (13-5) on Friday. Pine Valley finishes its season with an overall record of 8-12.
‘BILLIES BOUNCED BY GATORS
ALLEGANY — The 7-seed Allegany-Limestone Gators downed 10-seed Fredonia, 25-12, 25-16, 26-24, a Section VI Class C2 prequarterfinal.
Fredonia ends its season with an overall record of 2-15.
