Jayhawks Close Region Schedule With Two Weekend Victories

Closing out the regional portion of the schedule, the Jamestown Community College men’s soccer team came away with a 4-0 victory over Jefferson Community College on Sunday.

The Jayhawks (9-6, 1-3 WNYAC) scored three goals in the first half of action, starting with freshman defender Connor Hogg (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/King Edwards VII School) scoring his first collegiate goal within the first minute of action.

Freshman midfielder Louis Hurst (Blackpool, England/Cardinal Newman College) continued his strong season, scoring his first goal of the contest in the 22nd minute with freshman defender Owain Jones (Cardiff, Wales/Coleg Y Cymoedd) getting the assist. Hurst added another goal to his total in the 27th minute off the feed from freshman defender George Glover (Leeds, England/Allerton Grange School) to make it a 3-0 game.

JCC added one more goal in the second half as sophomore Jesse da Costa (Perth, Western Australia/SEDA) set freshman midfielder Tshepiso Ntuli (Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa/Pretoria Boys HS) for the score in the 49th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Bryan Anderson (Ashville/Chautauqua Lake) earned the win in net, making four saves on the day.

On Saturday, the Jayhawks downed North Country Community College by a score of 8-2.

The Jayhawks got the scoring going early in the match as da Costa set up Hurst in the 10th minute. Glover pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 21st minute and shortly after, set up freshman forward Ethan Richardson (Truro, England/Bridgend College) for a score in the 22nd minute.

Looking to add to the lead, freshman forward Caleb Foley (Jamestown/Maple Grove) scored his first collegiate goal in the 26th minute to make it a 4-0 game.

JCC tacked on another score in the 43rd minute as freshman forward Kayque Rodrigues (Sao Paulo, Brazil/E.E. Miguel Munhoz Filho) scored his first collegiate goal. The Saints got on the board in the 45th minute as the Jayhawks took a 5-1 lead into the break.

Foley continued to be the hot hand in the second half, scoring his second goal of the contest off the feed from freshman defender Josh Haigh (Sidmouth, England/Sidmouth College) in the 48th minute. Haigh made it a 7-1 game in the 63rd minute, scoring off the set up from da Costa.

North Country CC added another goal in the 76th minute, making it a 7-2 game. Jones rounded out the scoring for JCC, getting on the board in the 76th minute as well.

Anderson earned the win in net, making two saves in 30 minute of action. Freshman goalkeeper Ben Livingston went the rest of the way, making three saves.

The Jayhawks will be off until Saturday when they travel to Roberts Wesleyan College for a noon start.
