The 3rd Annual 1-Mile Stampede hosted by Jamestown Cross-Country took place on Saturday. Area elementary school runners completed the course in challenging conditions due to the heavy rain that fell overnight and all morning.

Beckett Lumia of Jefferson Middle School was the overall winner, first male, and clocked the fastest time of the day, 6:38. He was followed by 2nd place finisher and first female, Kater Hockenberry of Jefferson Middle School (7:01) with Bryce Cook of Sherman finishing 3rd (7:24).

For the second year in a row, Lumia earned the fastest time of the day, and was awarded the “Rob Liebers Memorial Award” and a gift card to Olympia Sports for a new pair of running shoes. Rob truly believed everyone could be a runner with “a good pair of shoes and a pair of socks”. Rob was a huge supporter of all area runners and was also an accomplished runner himself. In 2019 he lost his battle with cancer and will forever be missed by the running community he helped so much. The 1-Mile Stampede is dedicated to Rob’s memory with the hope that our area youth will fall in love with running at a young age just like he did.

In the 1st/2nd grade race Collyns Baglia from Temple Elementary was the overall winner and first male finisher in a time of 8:10, followed by Mark Cook of Sherman (8:20) and Micah Drake from Arlington Avenue Christian Academy (9:22). Avery Drake was the first female finisher with a time of 9:40.

In the 3rd/4th grade race, Hannah Cook from Sherman was the overall winner and first female finisher in 8:00. Erin Engquist from Lincoln Elementary was 2nd overall in 8:15. She was followed by Leo Irons of Southwestern Elementary School in 3rd place/1st male finisher (8:51).

Starting at $3.50/week.
