Gators Top ‘Billies, 5-1
ALLEGANY — Allegany-Limestone defeated Fredonia, 5-1, in the Section VI Class B-2 quarterfinals on Thursday night.
Zach Luce had two goals and one assist to lead the Gators (17-0-0). Tyler Curran had one goal and one assist, Anthony DeCapua and Cooper Wilczewski each had single goals, and Eric Spring had two assists for the Gators, who face Lackawanna on Monday in the semifinals. Lackawanna defeated Southwestern, 3-2, in another quarterfinal game.
Carson Cain had the lone goal for the Hillbillies, who finish the season 7-11-0 overall and 5-5 in the league. Zach Hall had the assist. Trevor Persch made 10 saves in goal.
GOLDEN COUGARS ADVANCE
BUFFALO — Falconer/Cassadaga Valley defeated LBJ Bennett-Alternative, 2-1, in a Class B-2 quarterfinal game.
The seventh-seeded Golden Cougars upset victory was sparked by goals from Haydn Myers and Ethyn Gilbert. Two-seed LBJ Bennett-Alternative’s lone goal came from Suze Fundi, assisted by Brishant Gurung.
The Golden Cougars (12-4-1) will now play 3-seed Royalton-Hartland in the semifinals at Amherst on Monday.
STEELERS KNOCK OFF TROJANS
WEST ELLICOTT — The Lackawanna Steelers defeated Southwestern, 3-2, in a Class B2 quarterfinal game at Charles A. Lawson Field.
The Trojans season comes to an end with the final record of 12-5-1 overall. Five-seed Lackawanna will play 1-seed Allegany-Limestone on Monday at Amherst.
T’BIRDS ELIMINATED
WILSON — Wilson defeated Chautauqua Lake, 3-0, in a Class C quarterfinal game.
The 4-seed Lakemen were propelled by two goals and one assist from Joey Moote. Moote assisted a Patrick Hemming goal, while Moote’s tallies were assisted by Owen Cloy and Keegan Herrmann.
Wilson advances to play 1-seed Lafayette International at Eden on Monday. Chautauqua Lake finishes the season with an overall record of 8-5-1.
PORTVILLE TOPS FREWSBURG
PORTVILLE — Portville defeated Frewsburg, 2-0, in a Class C quarterfinal game.
The second-seeded Panthers were led by Michael Cole with a goal and an assist and Brady German with one goal.
Portville kept its undefeated season going, improving to 15-0-1 and will face 3-seed Maple Grove in Eden on Monday. Frewsburg finishes the season with an overall record of 9-7-2 and a league record of 5-4-1.
