DEPEW — Jesse Reinhart connected with Javin McFollins on an 11-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to send Batavia of Section V to a come-from-behind 25-21 victory over Clymer/Sherman/Panama in a nonleague football game Friday night.

The game between the Wolfpack (5-2), the state’s No. 3-ranked Class D school, and the Blue Devils, No. 6 in Class B, was put together earlier in the week when Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s originally scheduled game was canceled.

Last night’s showdown didn’t disappoint.

“You’re not going to get better by playing against inferior competition,” Wolfpack head coach Ty Harper said. “I think it was a great opportunity for us, and I’m really proud of the way our guys battled.”

Kurtis Olson completed 17 of 28 passes for 159 yards and a 23-yard touchdown strike to Micah Willink, who finished with six receptions for 55 yards. Bryce Hinsdale added seven catches for 66 yards and converted all three point-after kicks, and Trent Burchanowski scored Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s final touchdown on a 3-yard run in the third quarter.

Defensively, Treyvon Kopta led the way for the Wolfpack with 13 tackles and a sack; and Lucas Lisciandro and Drake DiDomenico both had 10 stops.

Still, Batavia was a tough team to defend.

Reinhart connected with McFollins on an 88-yard TD pass to open the scoring in the second quarter, again on a 21-yard TD pass just before halftime — Clymer/Sherman/Panama led at the break, 14-13 — and then on the game-winning connection in the fourth quarter. Aidan Anderson added a 60-yard run earlier in the final period.

“I feel like if one or two plays go the other way, we win the game,” Harper said, “but if it makes us better down the road, it was an important game for us.”

HIND DOMINATES

EAST AURORA — Maxwell Frier of East Aurora scored the first touchdown in the Blue Devils’ nonleague game against Randolph.

The Cardinals’ Xander Hind took it from there.

All told, Hind scored three rushing TDs — from 5, 1 and 20 yards –and returned a kickoff 85 yards and a punt 70 yards for two more scores to highlight Randolph’s 46-13 victory Friday night.

“He’s quick, he’s fast and he hits the hole fast,” Cardinals head coach Brent Brown said. “He’ slippery and hard to tackle, a pretty good little runner.”

Hind finished with 142 yards on the ground on 19 carries and tacked on four two-point conversion runs. Teammate Christian Burch was credited with a two-point conversion run as well.

The win improved Randolph’s record to 7-0. The Cardinals close out the regular season at home against Cattaraugus-Little Valley next week.

East Aurora’s other touchdown came on Frier’s 20-yard pass to William Mersmann in the second quarter.

PANTHERS WIN

CATTARAUGUS — The Gowanda/Pine Valley Panthers (2-5, 1-4) football team got back into the win column, defeating Cattaraugus-Little Valley (1-6, 0-4), 48-32, in a nonleague football game on Friday night.

The Panthers dominated the first half as they jumped out to a 26-0 lead.

“This is the healthiest the team has been in the better part of a month. The confidence was back,” stated Panthers head coach Tyler Thompson.

Gowanda/Pine Valley was able to attack through both the air and on the ground. Gavin Phillips and Harlee Conklin both scored rushing touchdowns, while both Noah Geiger and Noah Vogtli had two receiving touchdowns. It was the first time this season Conklin reached the end zone and the first time Vogtli has reached it in two seasons.

“We were able to get things done through the air and on the ground,” stated Thompson. “Being able to get things done through the air really made us a multi-faceted team.”

The injury bug continued to play a role in the Panthers season as both Phillips and Geiger left hurt.

Next week the Panthers prepare for their biggest game of the year against Salamanca.

DUNKIRK FALLS TO WEST SENECA EAST

WEST SENECA — Dunkirk (1-5, 1-5) fell to West Seneca East (5-1, 6-1) in Class B South, 36-6.

The lone Marauders’ score came on a 18-yard pass from Noah Sykes to Javi DeJesus in the second quarter. The game was called in the third quarter due to multiple lightning delays.
