Red Raiders Win Again

WEST SENECA — Jamestown has reached the midway point of the regular season just where Coach Tom Langworthy hoped it would be.

Unbeaten.

Behind three rushing touchdowns by Jaylen Butera and two TD passes from Trey Drake, the Red Raiders knocked off West Seneca West, 35-14, in a Class A South football game Friday night.

Butera ran for 176 yards on 22 carries and TD runs of 1, 17 and 7 yards; Drake completed 11 of 16 passes for 128 yards, including scoring strikes of 20 yards to Colin Melendez and 43 yards to Darius Freeney, and the defense did the rest, limiting the Indians to touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters and forcing four turnovers.

Ben Anderson led the defense with 11 tackles, including five for loss, and two sacks; Sean O’Brien added nine tackles, including one for loss; Nick Miraglia had eight tackles, including two for loss; and Caleb Bane was credited with six stops. Sincere Green and Bane recorded interceptions, and Anderson and O’Brien recovered fumbles.

The Red Raiders (4-0, 3-0) will be back in action next Friday night when they entertain South Park at Strider Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The sparks defeated Jamestown, 30-29, in the Section VI Class A championship game in May.
