The Jamestown Tarp Skunks battled through inconsistency at the plate, on the mound and in the sky to salvage a doubleheader split with the Niagara Power on Friday evening at Diethrick Park.
After falling 5-4 in extra innings of the opening game, the Tarp Skunks waited through a short rain delay to beat the Power 2-1 in the nightcap.
With the two games scheduled for seven innings apiece, the teams went into an eighth inning in Game 1 after playing to a 3-3 tie through regulation. In the eighth, Alex Greene started on second base and went to third on Noah Marcelo’s sacrifice bunt. Aaron Greenfield then hit a groundball to shortstop, and with the infield playing in, Jamestown’s Elijah Pascual tried to get an out at the plate, but threw high allowing Greene to score. Nic Balsano then doubled down the left-field line to force in the second run.
The Tarp Skunks rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning. Pascual started on second base, but the first two Jamestown batters struck out. Niagara reliever Scott Ogrin then hit three straight Tarp Skunks batters to force in a run and load the bases, but Padraig O’Shaughnessy popped out to shortstop to end the game.
Each team scored in their halves of the first and second innings as the game remained tied 2-2 heading into the sixth inning.

The Power took a lead when a pair of walks and a hit batter loaded the bases with two outs before Danny Hosley walked Ethan Payne to force in the go-ahead run.
In the bottom half of the inning, Chase Carlson singled to right field before moving to second and third on wild pitches. Justin Bowers and O’Shaughnessy then walked to load the bases before Hosley hit an RBI single. Bowers tried to score the go-ahead run on the play, but was thrown out fairly easily at the plate.
Conner McBride threw three innings, allowing two hits, two runs and five walks while striking out two. Hosley threw the final five innings, allowing a hit, three runs and four walks while striking out four.
Dylan Steen, Chandler Giles and Ogrin combined on a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks for the Power.
In Game 2, Niagara took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Jamestown eventually answered with a two-run third inning.
Justin Bailey walked with one out and went to second on single by Carlson before both runners scored on a double by Mark Tucker.
Ryan Bradarich threw the first five innings, allowing just one hit and four walks while striking out five.
The game was delayed with a 1-2 count on Niagara’s Noah Marcelo in the top of the sixth inning.
When the game resumed, Bradarich struck out Marcelo, walked Greenfield and induced a Balsano flyout to right field for the second out. Brock Rudy then struck out, but reached first base on a dropped third strike, spelling the end of the night for Bradarich.
Justin Guiliano came on in relief and got Ogrin to pop out to the catcher for the final out.
Matt Henson struck out the first two batters of the seventh before a two-out double and a hit batter. Henson then induced a flyout to left field for his ninth save.
The same two teams play at 6 p.m. today at Sal Maglie Stadium.
