Three of them — Taige Jones, Trenton Donahue and Andrew Bungar — hail from Jamestown Community College and are the only representatives in all of Region 3 to be so honored.

“It is my honor on behalf of the NWCA and our Board of Directors to acknowledge and honor this year’s Scholar All-Americans,” said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. “This year’s honorees overcame steep obstacles and showed a tremendous amount of discipline to achieve in the classroom as well as on the mat.”

Jayhawks wrestling head Kris Schimek said he was “beyond proud … for showing what it means to be a true student-athlete.”

“Not only were they some of the hardest workers on the mats, but off the mats, too,” he said. “As a coaching staff, we preach that academics come first, and the reason we come to school is to get a degree. Wrestling comes second.”

TRENTON DONAHUE

Jones, a Bemus Point native, studied criminal justice during his two years as a Jayhawk while having a successful season on the mat. Jones posted a record of 11-4, including a 3-2 record at nationals in the 133-pound weight class. Jones was also named to the dean’s list during the fall semester.

Donahue, a freshman from DuBois, Pennsylvania native majoring in sport management, compiled a 12-2 record; was named the NJCAA Region 3 Most Outstanding Wrestler; was the NJCAA Eastern A District Champion; and was a NJCAA National Championship qualifier as a 141-pounder. Donahue was also named NJCAA Region 3 Academic All-Region, WNYAC Academic All-Conference, while also making the dean’s ist in the fall and spring semesters.

Bungar, a freshman from Hermitage, Pennsylvania native, is majoring in physical education. An NJCAA National Championship qualifier, he finished second in the Eastern A District Championship in the 165-weight class. Bungar was also named WNYAC All-Conference and made the dean’s list during the fall semester.
