Randolph Holds Off Portville For Wrestling Win

RANDOLPH — Randolph (1-1) was able to pick up a big enough lead at the lower weight classes on Wednesday night to finish off a 27-24 win over Portville (0-2) in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 wrestling.

The Cardinals gave up forfeit losses at 215 and 285 pounds, but had enough points on the board already as Joe Nottingham pinned Sam Zeigle in 83 seconds at 126 pounds, while Kenny Johnson topped Drew Langdon at 145 pounds in 2:33.

“We built up a good lead and wrestled really hard tonight. Super proud of the guys given the situation we are in,” Randolph coach Todd Conley said. “Both of them (Johnson and Nottingham) wrestled really hard. They went out and did what they have been working on in practice.”

Also aiding the win was Dalton McIntyre’s 10-8 overtime comeback against Mario Pascucci at 152 pounds.

“He was losing at the end of the first period 8-1,” Conley said. “He came back and won that match in overtime and showed a lot of grit and determination to fight back and get that win for us.”

At 172 pounds, Cam Morrison of Portville pinned Sterling Skye in 37 seconds.
