JCC’s Gullo Takes Fourth In Verona

VERONA — In the final round of the 2021 NJCAA Region 3 Championships, all four Jamestown Community College golfers improved their scores from round one on the par-72 Kaluhyat Golf Club at Turning Stone.

“I’m really proud of our team today,” said interim head coach George Sisson. “Our guys switched up their approaches after seeing the course and it showed. Teeing off in the morning also showed to be beneficial when it comes to nationals.”

Anthony Gullo (Jamestown/Jamestown) stayed consistent, shooting 85 once again to finish in fourth place, earning him All-Region honors. Gullo shot par on six holes and earned three birdies on the back nine. For the weekend, Gullo finished with a combined score of 170.

David Allen (Jamestown/Falconer) improved his score from the first day by five strokes, shooting a 93 in the final round to place 14th. Allen shot par on two holes while finishing with a combined score of 188.

Matthew Fennell (Fourways Garden, Johannesburg, South Africa/King Edwards VII School) had the biggest improvement, shaving 12 strokes off his first-round score to shoot a 98. Fennell finished with a combined score of 208 to place 16th.

Josh Brown (Randolph/Randolph) rounded out the Jayhawk competitors, shooting a 112, taking six strokes off his first-round score. Brown finished with a combined score of 230, placing 17th.

As a team, the Jayhawks took 20 strokes off their first-round score to shoot a 388. JCC finished third in the team standings with a combined score of 796.

The Jayhawks will be on a brief hiatus before hosting the 2021 NJCAA Division III Golf Championships starting on Tuesday, June 8 at Chautauqua Golf Club.
