Johnson Named 2020 USPTA Eastern College Tennis COY

Matt Johnson, USPTA Elite & Berry College PTM, was named 2020 USPTA Eastern College Coach of the Year for his accomplishments as the head women’s tennis coach at SUNY Fredonia.

Johnson led the team to a conference semifinal appearance, with a 12-4 record (4-3 conference), a new college record for wins in a season. In addition, several student-athletes established a bevy of career and single-season individual and doubles records under his guidance. He completed his tenure at Fredonia with a 22-8 career record.

Johnson is now the tennis director & head professional at the YMCA in Lakewood and the Kahkwa Country Club in Erie, Pennsylvania. Currently enrolled in the USPTA and PTR mentorship programs, Johnson is a member of the USPTA Eastern Elevate Committee.

Johnson said he would like to thank Steve Pekich (USPTA) for nominating him for this award, as well as his mentors, Alex Armstrong (USPTA) and Jim Scott (PTR), and former Berry PTM Director, Tom Daglis, for their guidance and support.
