Seniors Kayla and Cassidy Allen have achieved what only one other Flyers gymnast has achieved.

It’s an extra-special achievement considering they couldn’t practice for over three months during the COVID-19 shutdown.

Kayla Allen recently qualified for regionals with an all-around score of 35.150 and Cassidy Allen qualified with an all-around score of 34.225 at their state meet. Kayla did extremely well placing sixth on bars (8.7) and beam (8.725) and seventh in all-around (35.150). Cassidy is the New York state silver medalist on vault with a 9.525.

Regionals will be held at The Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts the weekend of April 23. The Allens will be competing against other regional qualifiers from New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

Kayla and Cassidy are both seniors at Southwestern Central School and have been taking gymnastics at Flyers since they were 6 years old. They have been practicing year-round four days per week for most of their gymnastic careers. Cassidy is captain of her team and Kayla coaches instructional classes. They are coached by head optional coach Marissa Miller, team ballet coach and choreographer Fawn Schuster, assistant optional coach Mike Fessel and program director Sherri Melson.

Kayla and Cassidy will be showcasing their routines at Flyers Gymnastics, 1765 Lindquist Ave. in Falconer, at their last practice before regionals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
