YMCA Hosts Snowflake Pickleball Tournament

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood YMCA had a solid turnout for its Snowflake Pickleball Tournament recently.

The two-day tournament consisted of five divisions.

In Men’s 3.5 Doubles, Lakewood’s own Jon Cable and Rick Engelbert dominated and took gold. They were followed by Jeff and Kyle Thomas who took silver and John Paway and Doug James who grabbed bronze.

The night ended smoothly with 3.5 Mixed Doubles. John Cable and his wife Becky Cable took gold followed by Carol Cady and Paul Burek taking silver and Michele Ognibene and Engelbert placing bronze.

The tournament finished Sunday evening with the 4.0 Mixed Doubles. Amy Porter and Jehad Ali took gold followed by Marlene Sandberg and Matt Johnson who took silver and Sara Wilczek and Ryan Samlund placing third.

Two divisions played Sunday morning.

Oto Hlincik and Dave Mackenzie took gold in the Men’s Doubles 4.0. They were followed by James Stevens and Tom Hayes in second and Jed Carrol and Bill Grossman placing bronze.

In Women’s Doubles Amy Porter and Eileen Grew took gold followed by Laura Scheu and Emily Hawkins taking silver and Marlene Sandberg and Carol Cady placing third.
