Elijah Rojas had a Senior Night to remember.
The 6-foot-2 guard poured in 28 points, collected six steals and dished out five assists Wednesday evening to propel Jamestown to an 85-67 victory over West Seneca West in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 basketball game at McElrath Gymnasium.
The win improved the Red Raiders’ record to 12-1 overall and 11-0 in the league, but unlike their victory over the winless Indians — a 103-67 blowout a little more than two weeks ago — this one was hardly a thing of beauty.
In fact, West Seneca West (0-10) led 36-35 at halftime, leaving Jamestown coach Ben Drake more than a little unhappy when the team arrived in the locker room.
“I wasn’t very loud,” he said, “but I expressed my disappointment.”

Rojas offered a few words, too.
Then he let his actions do the talking after the break.
All told, he scored 17 points in the final 16 minutes, including 12 in the fourth quarter, to allow the hosts to finally put the pesky Indians away.
“Elijah played very well tonight,” Drake said. ” … Elijah has been a good leader for us this year. Even when we weren’t playing well, he was very vocal. He just showed a lot of good senior leadership, on and off the court.”
Rojas was at his best early in the final period.
Demarri Jones got the rally started by taking a charge and converting a layup to put the Red Raiders up, 59-50; Jaylen Butera made a steal and dished to Rojas for another layup; and after a three-point play by West Seneca West’s Jaden Walcott, Rojas drilled a jumper and made a steal that he turned into another easy layup.
Armed with a 65-53 lead with under seven minutes remaining, the Red Raiders could exhale just a bit. The margin grew to as many as 20 points following a putback by — you guessed it — Rojas in the closing minutes.
“I was expecting us to come out and play much better in the second half and pull away,” Drake said.
Joining Rojas in double figures were Jones and Simeon Leeper with 15 points apiece and Butera with 11. As a team, Jamestown shot 38 of 88 from the field, held a 42-31 rebounding advantage (Leeper led with 10), and forced 21 turnovers, 18 of them steals.
West Seneca West was led by Walcott and Caleb Marshall with 15 points apiece and De’merion Weatherspoon with 12.
The Red Raiders close out the ECIC Division 1 portion of their schedule next Tuesday when they travel to Frontier. In their first meeting, Jamestown prevailed, 88-57.
“I’m actually looking forward to the next six days, because we’ve been playing so many games in such a short amount of time that we haven’t had the practice time that we would really like.”
Jamestown’s final regular-season game will be March 19 when it entertains Fredonia in a nonleague encounter.
NOTES: Joining Rojas in the pregame Senior Night recognition were Jones, Leeper and Jayden Sisley. … In the junior varsity game, Darius Freeney scored 17 points to lead the Red Raiders (7-3) to a 73-42 victory over West Seneca West.
