Jones, Donahue, Abram Shine For Jayhawks

The Jamestown Community College wrestling team had solid showings from several competitors on Saturday when it faced NCAA Division III Thiel College and NCAA Division II Gannon University in the JCC tri-match.

The duals were not the traditional variety as the teams customized their lineups in order to get different athletes the chance to compete.

Sophomore Taige Jones (Bemus Point /Maple Grove HS) had a strong outing, picking up two wins. Wrestling in the 133 pound weight class, he picked up his first with a fall over Jake Alberts of Thiel, needing 25 seconds to do so. Against the Golden Knights, Jones battled his way to a 9-7 sudden victory-1 against Reese Vollmer.

Freshman Trenton Donahue (DuBois, Pennsylvania/BuBois Area HS) continued his strong start to his collegiate career, picking up two wins on the day. Wrestling in the 141-pound weight class, he earned his first win with a fall over Hunter Martz of Thiel in 3:16. Donahue carried his momentum over to his match against the Golden Knights, earning an 18-0 technical fall over Constentine Gerhiing in 3:41.

Freshman Ross Abram (Eden/Eden Central) was the final Jayhawk to pick up two victories. Wrestling in the 174-pound weight class, Abram recorded a 14-3 major decision over Frank Gill of Thiel. Abram capped off the day with an 11-10 decision over Holden Cook of the Golden Knights.

The other Jayhawks who earned victories were 125-pounder Marcus Evans (Randolph/Randolph) and 157-pounder Otto Davidson (Congers/Clarkstown North).

The Jayhawks will be back in action Sunday when they travel to Lackawanna College for a dual at 1 p.m.
