JCC Wrestlers Have Success In Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. — Taige Jones, Trenton Donahue, Andrew Bungar and Alex Christy picked up victories as Jamestown Community College took down Lackawanna College, 38-12, in NJCAA wrestling Sunday.

Jones earned a 17-1 technical fall over Kevin Bowne at 133 pounds.

“He’s been putting in a lot of extra work,” Jamestown CC coach Kris Schimek said. “He’s putting in the time off the mat to make himself better. Everything happening for him is very well-earned.”

Donahue pinned Trinity Costa in 22 secnonds at 141 pounds.

At 165 pounds, Andrew Bungar earned an 11-6 decision over Chris Lovallo.

“Andrew was in control and got thrown to his back for six points. He was down 6-2, but wrestled back,” Schimek said. “Rallying back was good because that was his first college win. It was a statement victory for him.”

Alex Christy moved up from 197 pounds to avoid a forfeit and beat James Lawson with a pin in 3:16 at heavyweight.

“We bumped him up and he got taken down early, but he weathered the storm. He kept himself out of bad positions despite giving up 80 pounds,” Schimek said. “It’s a four-hour drive in a limited season. We wanted to bump him up just to get the match in. He never fought it. He needed a big win because he didn’t have a great weekend last weekend.”

Otto Davidson (157 pounds), Ross Abram (174 pounds) and Jesse Storch (184) won via forfeit for the Jayhawks.

Jamestown CC returns to action at home Wednesday against Niagara County CC.

“In my five years, this is going to be the most competitive Niagara County CC dual on paper,” Schimek said. “It’ll be 10 vs. 10 for the first time in five years we’ve wrestled them. We’re having a little bit of an up year and they are having a little bit of a down year. It should be very competitive.”
