The Jamestown Community College women’s basketball team shot poorly from the 3-point arc and the foul line Tuesday night, but it nearly came away with a win over Niagara County CC in a NJCAA Region 3 Division II game at the Physical Education Complex.

Tied at 83 with three minutes left, the Thunderwolves (7-4, 3-1) did just enough down the stretch to hold off the Jayhawks (3-7, 1-3) in the regular-season finale. Because Niagara County CC has the better record in the region, it will host Jamestown CC in the region final on Saturday.

“We played so hard. That’s the class of the league for the last three years,” Jayhawks coach Ken Ricker said. “We’ve beaten them once and we were right there tonight. We’ll go there at noon Saturday with absolutely everything we have until the final horn and see what we can do.”

Last night, Jamestown CC had trouble offensively, connecting on 34% of its field goal attempts (37 of 108), including just 3 of 29 from the arc. The Jayhawks also managed to hit only 12 of 28 free throws, but strong play from Nadara O’Dell (31 points) and Hannah Hicks (20 points and 22 rebounds) helped the hosts stay close. Kymi Nance chipped in with 21 points and Jessica Beeher had 11 points and six assists.

Alaina Forbes led the Thunderwolves with 20 points, Gabrielle McDuffie had 19 and Meghan Gill contributed 10.

Niagara County CC led 51-42 at the break. The Jayhawks held a 47-41 edge in the second half.
