Raiders Win Twice During Opening Week Of Action

The Jamestown Raiders opened defense of their New York State High School Club Hockey League Large School championship this week with two wins and a loss.

On Tuesday, the Raiders held a 3-2 lead entering the third period before falling to East Aurora/Holland, 7-4.

East Aurora/Holland took a 1-0 lead in the first period before Jed Hirliman scored from Brendan Hirliman early in the second period to tie the game for Jamestown. East Aurora/Holland then took a 2-1 lead before Jackob Guimond tallied from Devin Wolfe to tie the game again for the Raiders.

Jamestown took a 3-2 lead on Cooper Bergman’s goal from Michael Gerace, but East Aurora/Holland tied the game and eventually took the lead early in the third period. Bergman tied the game at 4-4 with 12:51 remaining on a goal from Guimond, but East Aurora/Holland scored the final three goals to win.

On Friday, the Raiders picked up their first win of the season, 4-2, over Eden/Lake Shore/Pioneer/Springville.

Jed Hirliman opened the scoring from Declan Brown and Alex MacCallum before ELPS scored the next two goals.

With little time remaining in the second period, Ritter Coombs tied the game from Tristan Spillane and Lucian Talbett.

Spillane scored the eventual game-winning goal unassisted and MacCallum added an insurance marker from Brown.

On Saturday, Jamestown beat City Honors/Cardinal O’Hara, 12-1.

Jed Hirliman, Evan Christensen, Brown, Gerace, Spillane and Ryan Mead each had a first-period goal for the Raiders.

Guimond, MacCallum and Brown scored in the second period before Bergman scored twice and Brown added another goal in the third period.

Gerace, Coombs (2), Mead, Brendan Hirliman (3), Jed Hirliman, MacCallum, Christensen (2), Hudson Knapp, Spillane, Bergman and Wolfe all had assists.

Jack Yost and Jackson Roth are the Raiders’ goaltenders.
