Jamestown Pours In 103 At West Seneca West

WEST SENECA — The Jamestown boys basketball team remained unbeaten in Division 1 of the Erie County Interscholastic Conference on Monday night and it hit the century mark in the process.

Junior Jaylen Butera led four players in double figures with 20 points to go along with seven rebounds and six steals as the Red Raiders defeated West Seneca West, 103-67.

Sophomore Trey Drake drilled 5 3-pointers on his way to 19 points, senior Simeon Leeper added 16 points and senior Elijah Rojas contributed 12 for the Red Raiders (6-1, 5-0), who led 55-17 at halftime.

“West Seneca West tried to trap all over the court and we were able to pass it over the defense and get a lot of high-percentage shots,” Jamestown coach Ben Drake said. “We were very unselfish and passed the ball extremely well and made the extra pass all night long, which was pleasing.”

The second half was a track meet with the Red Raiders holding a 50-48 edge.

“I wasn’t so pleased with the second-half defense,” Coach Drake said. “Sometimes when you get into a game like that it’s difficult to keep kids motivated when they’re up by 40. They were motivated at one of the floor and not the other end.”

Leeper also had nine rebounds and six assists; Drake had six rebounds and three assists; and Rojas collected five helpers.

“After not having a very good Week One, Simeon’s had a great Week Two and into Week Three,” Coach Drake said. “For him, it’s not just him scoring points, he’s doing everything. He’s been solid on defense and he’s also having a very good assist-to-turnover ratio. Those were the things that plagued him in Week One that we talked about. I’m really proud of him and how he responded in the last few games.”

Jamestown returns to action Friday when it entertains Frontier.

In the junior varsity game, Sean Paige scored 24 points, Darius Freeney 15, Bishop Butts 14 and Chad Ramsey 12 to lead the Red Raiders to a 91-50 victory.
