BARBERSVILLE, Fla. — A pair of area drivers are preparing for the start of the Morton Buildings World of Outlaws Late Models season opener this weekend.

Veteran Boom Briggs of Bear Lake, Pennsylvania and rookie Ryan Scott of Garland, Pennsylvania will be in the field when racing begins Thursday at Volusia Park Speedway.

According to the World of Outlaws website, Briggs, who is in his fifth season as a full-time driver with the Morton Buildings World of Outlaws Late Models, first hit the road in 2014 and 2015, then went back home for a few years, and has been a staple on tour since returning in 2019.

With 255 career starts under his belt, Briggs, 49, has tallied six top-five finishes and 30 top-10 results, while leading a combined 88 laps in feature action. His career-best finish remains a second-place run, which he’s achieved twice. His first close call with victory came on Feb. 13, 2016 at Screven (Georgia) Motor Speedway when he followed Rick Eckert to the line. Most recently, Briggs controlled 40 laps at Eriez Speedway on Aug. 22, 2020 before succumbing to eventual race winner Dennis Erb Jr.

Meanwhile, Scott is one of the new faces on the Morton Buildings Late Model Series and is entered to contend for Rookie of the Year honors with three other newcomers.
