Cousins Peter and Riley Auer, left and middle respectively, along with their friend and Maple Grove cross country and track coach, Steve Matteson, right, completed their 41.97-mile run around Chautauqua Lake on Saturday in 8 hours, 51 minutes, including breaks. This was a goal that Peter set and wanted to complete, and when he asked his cousin, Riley, to join, the latter was all in. Matteson coordinated the training program and detailed timing and the schedule for the journey around the lake. The trio was joined by fellow Maple Grove cross country alumni, Shane Hetrick and Nick Brunenavs, who provided encouragement as they ran segments with the group. Throughout the day, the runners helped raise more than $2,000 for the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County.
