Rojas Scores 8 In Debut For Alabama

A former Jamestown High School basketball standout acquitted himself quite well in his first game at the University of Alabama.

James Rojas scored 8 points (on 3 of 8 shooting), grabbed seven rebounds and had one assist in the Crimson Tide’s 81-57 season-opening victory over Jacksonville State. Rojas, a two-time Post-Journal Player of the Year during his time as a Red Raider, transferred to the Southeast Conference school last year after an All-American sophomore season (2018-19) at NJCAA power Hutchinson (Kansas) Community College.

Upon his transfer to the Tuscaloosa campus, Rojas was expected to make contributions right away for head coach Nate Oats and assistant coach and Jamestown native Bryan Hodgson, but the 6-foot-8 forward suffered a preseason knee injury, which forced him to sit out the 2019-20 season.

He finally got on the court last night and did himself proud.

Alabama will be back in action Monday against Stanford at the Maui Invitational. Opening tip is 9:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
