Swabik, Barber Lead Pack During Saturday Cross Country In Frewsburg

FREWSBURG — John Swabik finished the 3.0-mile course at Robert H. Jackson Elementary School in 17:37 to lead Clymer/Sherman/Panama to a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association boys cross country victory Saturday morning.

Swabik was one of three Wolfpack runners in the top 10 as the team finished with 35 points. Frewsburg took second with 49 points, led by third-place Toby Gifford (18:28). Franklinville/Ellicottville was third with 50 points, led by second-place Cayden Hatch (18:19). Gowanda was fourth with 95 points, paced by ninth-place Cole Herman (19:19).

Frewsburg’s Acacia Barber took first in the girls race, nearly two minutes faster than the second-place finisher with a time of 19:57. Clymer/Sherman/Panama was the top girls team with 20 points, paced by second-place Jenna Fisher (21:52) and third-place Tayden Persons (22:44). Gowanda was second with 50 points, led by eighth-place Kayla Forthman (23:55), and Franklinville/Ellicottville was third with 61 points, paced by seventh-place Tarryn Herman (23:55). Frewsburg was incomplete.

GATORS DOMINATE BOYS RACE

SILVER CREEK — Daniel Casey finished in 15:01 to lead Allegany-Limestone to a perfect first-place score of 15 points against Silver Creek/Forestville, Randolph and Dunkirk.

Casey’s time set a course record at Silver Creek High School, beating Randolph’s Ronan McDonald’s time of 15:11 set in 2018. Silver Creek/Forestville took second with 55 points, paced by 12th-place Gabe Rhodes. Randolph was third with 81 points, led by sixth-place Talon Rowland in 16:37. Dunkirk was fourth with 103 points, led by 18th-place Zachary Zentz.

In the girls race, Allegany-Limestone’s Angelina Napoleon also set a course record in 16:51 to lead the Gators to a second-place finish with 32 points. Napoleon’s time broke Silver Creek/Forestville’s Ellie Decker’s time by 2:30.

Silver Creek/Forestville took first place overall with 30 points, paced by Juliana Flick’s third-place finish in 19:10. Randolph was third with 64 points, led by Sydney Smith’s fourth-place finish in 19:47. Dunkirk was incomplete.

MAPLE GROVE GIRLS PERFECT

FREDONIA — Led by Christina Peppy, Maple Grove’s girls finished with a perfect score en route to a victory at Fredonia High School.

Peppy finished in 19:33.5 to pace the Red Dragons. She was followed by Ava Crist (20:10.93), Abby Brunenavs (20:26.08), Tori Pavlock and Allison Bohall.

Southwestern finished second with 51 points, led by sixth-place Lily Nelson, while Fredonia was third with 70 points, paced by ninth-place Ashlynn Ambrose.

Southwestern won the boys race with 22 points, led by second-place Ethan Luce in 17:33.60.

Maple Grove’s Lukas Baer won the boys race in 16:33.43 to lead the Red Dragons to a second-place team finish with 48 points. Fredonia was third with 67 points, led by ninth-place Adam Lesch.

CARLSON LEADS RED RAIDERS

JAMESTOWN — Drew Carlson toured the Martin Road Athletic Complex course in 17:08 to lead Jamestown to a boys win over Cattaraugus-Little Valley and Olean with 20 points.

Olean’s Jack DeRose was third for the incomplete Huskies while Geoffrie Eisensmith was fourth for the third-place Timberwolves, who finished with 39 points.

Nya Martinelli won the girls race in 22:57 for incomplete Olean. Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s Emma Pocabello was second in 23:03 as the Timberwolves were the only full girls team to compete.

Jamestown’s top finisher was Alyson Canfield in sixth (27:04).
