LAKEWOOD — After a disappointing spring interscholastic high school sailing season that was canceled due to COVID-19 health restrictions, the Chautauqua Lake Community Sailing Foundation was finally able to engage local high school sailors in an interscholastic event with several Buffalo area schools on a beautiful weekend event on Chautauqua Lake.

Ten races were sailed off the Richard O. Hartley Park under sunny skies and light to moderate breezes out of the east on Sunday.

Southwestern Central picked up where it left off in the fall of 2019, dominating seven visiting schools from Buffalo. Brooks Turcotte, with crew Maddie Overbeck, both of Southwestern, finished first, winning seven out of 10 races and ending up with 16 points. Phillipp Meyer, with crew Matt Lefler, also of Southwestern, finished third with 38 points, one point more than a boat with sailors from Amherst/Williamsville East in second place with 37 points. Other sailors from Southwestern included Nolan Lefler, with crew Emma Malmstrom-Jouannet, in ninth with 87 points, Siri DuBois and Sophia Segrue in 10th place with 92 points and Aly Dalton and Sage Bertges in 11th place with 103 points.
