Lakers Disabled Hockey Registration Is Open

The Jamestown Lakers Disabled Hockey organization has now opened its new player registration to the public. Opportunities and participation are key to build a strong foundation, according to Blade Ellis, who is currently a staff member within the organization.

All children benefit from exercise, enjoyment and energy release, according to the University of Rochester Medical Center. The Lakers registration comes at a time when individuals are becoming more cautious of fitness, activity, friendships and competition.

“We are extremely excited to provide the community an opportunity to join such a wonderful program,” said Ellis said. “This magnificent organization provides many benefits to children with any type of disability, including physical, mental and learning.”

Located at the Northwest Arena in Jamestown, home of the Jamestown Rebels North American Hockey League team, the Lakers disabled hockey organization provides a no-cost program for individuals with disabilities. The program strives to accomplish several objectives and goals, including team building; building communication; developing long-term friendships; reaching full potential as both individuals and athletes; and, most importantly, having fun. The program focuses on the slogan, “Because everyone should play,” giving all individuals with a disability the opportunity to play hockey at no cost.

“We focus on not just winning hockey games and becoming better athletes, but also becoming better individuals,” Ellis said. “We have a strong staff that works extremely hard to get our players to reach their full potential to compete in hockey games, while, at the same time, illustrating and teaching our players the basic skills of life, and how to be a professional, respectable young adult.”
