Golden Cougars Edge Jamestown, 1-0
Braeden Sigular’s early goal stood up as Falconer/Cassadaga Valley held off Jamestown, 1-0, in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association West Division game at Strider Field on Wednesday.
Carson Olson made four saves for the winners.
Jamestown keepers Evan Sharpe and Jon Brito combined for eight saves.
MURPHY’S GOAL LIFTS FREDONIA
Sam Murphy’s goal at the 76th minute was just enough as Fredonia held off Southwestern, 1-0, in a West Division game.
The assist went to Juan Matias in support of keeper Trevor Persch, who made five saves.
“We played well,” Fredonia coach Jim Rush said. “It was a typical Southwestern-Fredonia game — close, tight and we were able to convert our opportunity. Both teams played well. It was a good game to be a part of.”
The win raised the Hillbillies’ record to 5-1.
EAGLES PREVAIL
SOUTH DAYTON — Ellicottville (5-2-1, 3-0-1) was a 4-1 winner over Pine Valley/Gowanda (0-5, 0-4) in CCAA East play.
Bryce Butler, Sam Edwards, Clayton Rowland and Mitchell Azcarate scored in the win, with Justin Imhoff and Butler picking up assists.
RED DRAGONS SWEEP FREWSBURG
FREWSBURG — Maple Grove improved to 6-0 on the year and 4-0 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Central Division action with a 6-0 shutout of Frewsburg (2-4, 1-4).
Alex MacCallum scored the first and last goals and added an assist, Nick Golando hit home two goals and an assist, while RJ Helt and Steven Whitman also found the back of the net for Maple Grove.

Sam Eimiller assisted Golando’s second and Eli Moore dished out a pass to Whitman with 10 minutes left in regulation.
Andrew Auer made two saves in the shutout, and Conner Murray nine for the Bears.
WESTFIELD/BROCTON PREVAILS
WESTFIELD — Westfield/Brocton (2-3, 2-3) was a 4-2 winner over North Collins (4-3-1, 1-3) in CCAA Central play on Wednesday.
Darien Swanson converted on a penalty kick for the winners, and assisted on Josh Heim’s goal late in the contest.
Heim assisted on Josh Baressi’s goal to open the game, while Carson Swanson scored the second goal of the evening for the Wolverines.
Brad Babcock made eight saves in the win, including a stop on a second-half penalty kick.
Alex Teijeira converted from Max Warsaw and Carson Teijeira scored from Ryan Stefan for North Collins.
CARDINALS FALL
PORTVILLE — Kyle Mathes scored a goal and was credited with an assist to lead Portville to a 4-1 East Division victory over Randolph.
Nate Petryszak (penalty kick), Christian Gariepy and Michael Cole also found the back of the net for the Panthers (4-2). Todd Stone added an assist in support of keeper Alex Wenke, who made four saves.
Randolph’s Ethan Sheffield was credited with the Cardinals’ lone goal, a penalty kick in the 50th minute.
Kyle Smallback was between the pipes and made eight saves for Randolph (2-2-1).
GIRLS
FALCONER/CV PREVAILS
OLEAN — Grace Lundmark stopped 16 shots and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley tallied both goal in the first half en route to a 2-0 victory over Olean.
Abbey Sweeney (assisted by Michaela Olson) and Brailyn Paladino (unassisted) scored goals before intermission to stake Lundmark to a 2-0 lead.
The victory raised the Golden Cougars’ record to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the West Division.
The Huskies fell toa 4-1-1 and 4-1.
