Adult Curling

Week 2 of the Northwest Arena Fall Backyard Curling Leagues, sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique, continued last week.

5:45 MONDAY LEAGUE

Pepsi Banger-Z went 2-0 beating Pepsi Rockstar-Z, 44-41, and Scuba Crew, 33-30, with Jamie Billquist and Jon Bernard leading the way. Shoeless Joe’s Pub also went 2-0 as it defeated the Stone Cold Curlers, 47-45, and CurlRona, 53-38, as the husband-and-wife team of Joe and Teresa Jackson were the top curlers.

Stone Cold Curlers bounced back with a 47-33 victory over Legion of Broom, with Alex Miller being their leading curler. Curling Me Softly ended up going 1-1 with a victory over the Rockstar-Z, 45-33, with strong play from Julie Fye and Cindy Wilson.

Legion of Broom evened up their record with a close 43-42 win over CurlRona, as Cecil Miller led the way. Scuba Crew knocked off Curling Me Softly, 40-32, as Tony Stellato was the top scorer.

6:45 MONDAY LEAGUE

On the Rocks got in the win column in a big way, as they went 2-0 this week with wins over Joe’s Slammers, 46-28, and Always Late, But Worth the Wait, 41-38, with Dan Gustafson leading the way.

Also going 2-0 were the Rolling Stones, as Mark Baglia and Steve Cramer led the way over Mary’s Smooth Red Curlers, 35-34, and The Outsliders, 45-38. The Outsliders rebounded with a win over Stone Cold, 54-44, with their top curlers Jordan Coccognia and Joe Hinman. Keeping their record perfect on the year was Short & Curly, as they defeated Always Late, But Worth the Wait, 53-40, and Joe’s Slammers, 46-36, as Jamie Smith led the way.

5:15 STEVE CHAMBERS @ DAVE WARREN JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Merrill Lynch Cirls continued at the top of the standings with their win over Rocks on, Rocks off, 42-37, behind strong play from Dawn and Sadie Stuart.

Going 2-0 on the night, were the TRCurlers as they also bested Rocks on, Rocks off, 46-37, and Hindy’s Hurlers, 44-27, with star performances from Kevin Anderson and Beth Jermain. Other teams going 1-1 on the night were Golfers on Ice being led by Charlie Beach and Jim Gustafson; Home Despots knocking off league-leading Merrill Lynch Cirls, 31-29, with strong play from Casey Colburn; and Hindy’s Hurlers defeating Golfers on Ice, 38-35, with Liz Hinderleider being the first.

6:15 STEVE CHAMBERS @ DAVE WARREN JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

The Brush Offs remain undefeated after two weeks of play with wins over Paving Ice, 51-20, and Lewis and Lewis, 51-34, with Steve Shelters and Nick Kahanic being the top curlers. Lewis and Lewis bounced back with a victory over Sky Rocketeers, 27-25, as George Panebianco and Andy Sandstrom led the way.

The Cremators also went 2-0 on the week as they defeated Throwing Stones, 34-24, and Jamestown Hammers, 31-26, with strong play from Liz Feronti. Throwing Stones evened their record with a win over Curls Gone Wild, 41-29, as Rob Brown led the way. Also going 1-1 on the night and defeating Curls Gone Wild was Jamestown Hammers with Kristen Darr being the top curler. Curls Gone Wild had a stellar performance from Amy Hook. Kevin Gastol paved the way for Paving Ice, as they secured their first-ever win as they bested the Rocketeers in a close one, 34-32.

7:15 STEVE CHAMBERS @ DAVE WARREN JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Peterson’s Candies/Neil’s Propane jumped up in the standings this week going 2-0, by defeating previous unbeaten Dot’s Gift Boutique, 39-38, in overtime as Tim Sturges slid the deciding stone.

Recording their first two wins of their curling careers was The Joly Riches as they defeated the Rolling Rocks, 48-21, and New Kicks, 42-33, with Sara Joly and Anne Rich showing their curling prowess. All going 1-1 this week were Dot’s Gift Boutique, Rolling Rocks, Oldies but Goodies and Ready to Rock, as they were led by, Bryan Olson, Rob White, Greg Anderson and Paul Silzle, respectively.

4:30 FRIDAY LEAGUE

The Harvii Curlers broke the century mark by scoring 108 points in their two victories over Sweeping Beauties, 63-22, and the Button Mashers, 45-23, as they were led by Reid VanEvery.

The Seminar Group remained on top of the division, remaining undefeated with their two wins over Justin Other Team, 46-42, and Fruit of the Brooms, 48-42, as Bryan Olson and Wayne Rishell were their top curlers. The Elks Club received outstanding play from “The Coach” Tim Anderson and Matt Hartwig as they bested Freezerburn, 25-22, and The Chestnuts, 41-32. Fruit of the Brooms won a nail-biter, 35-33, over 4 Below Haggy’s Bar & Grill, 35-33, on Frank Fuller’s final game-winning stone.

4 Below bounced back in their second game as they defeated We’ve Got the Stones, 48-37, with Terry Garvin carrying the load. We’ve Got the Stones won a close one in their opening match against The Chestnuts, 40-38, where Jenn Beebe led the Stones and Barb Lyons carried The Chestnuts. The Baby Broomers earned their first-ever victory over the Button Mashers, as they eeked out a, 31-30, win as Stephanie Johnson was her team’s top curler. Freezerburn avenged their loss by defeating the Baby Broomers, 47-31, as Steve Tanner led the charge.
