Format Change For 31st Annual George Bataitis Open

The 31st George Bataitis Open, held on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Chautauqua Golf Club, will now be a shotgun start format. Registration will be at 7:30 a.m. with golf beginning at 8:30 a.m. Carts will be provided for each competitor unless you are playing with a household member.

“We are really excited about the opportunity to host the 31st annual GBO this year,” said Jamestown CC athletic director George Sisson. “I want to thank the Chautauqua Golf Club and Troy Moss for his efforts as well as the GBO committee working through the current situation.”

The entry fee for each golfer is $100 or $80 for Chautauqua Golf Club members. Included in the entry fee is golf, cart, refreshments on the course and a grab-and-go lunch. Face masks are required when competitors are not on the course.

Awards will be determined by flights. First- and second-place finishers of each flight will receive awards. The number of flights will be determined by the number of foursomes competing. The awards ceremony will be done virtually and posted on social media. Awards will be mailed to the winners or schedule a time to pick up in person.

All proceeds will go to support scholarships for both female and male athletes at Jamestown CC.

“We look forward to seeing all of our supporters of Jayhawk Athletics again on the course,” said Sisson. “This event plays a large role in helping young people achieve their college education. It is a very worthy event and much appreciated by our athletes.”

The George Bataitis Open Golf Tournament started as an afternoon of golf among friends. When George Bataitis retired after more than 35 years of distinguished service to Jamestown Community College, a scholarship fund was initiated in his name, with the GBO providing the funds.

Since that time, over $290,000 has been raised for scholarships for athletes attending Jamestown Community College. On Oct. 11, 2014 George passed away at the age of 87. Jamestown CC honors his memory by continuing this tournament, which shows his commitment to JCC and student-athletes.

“We look forward to seeing everyone at the tournament,” Sisson said. “Huge thanks goes out to our premier sponsor Jamestown Macadam, Inc. and RBJ-NYC as well as all the other supporters that make the event so special.”

Entry forms are to be received no later than Wednesday.
